+7 Internets | A Raven, if you're even a little concerned about cost. Independent damage types with battleship-level DPS, relatively cheap (since it insures), and it can fight off most any normal solo gank ship if you have a neut. |

| I'm trying the game out once again as well. I'm liking it a lot more this time around. If anyone is going to play the trial, you get 21 days free if you go through steam as opposed to the 14 days from the official website. Also, steam sells the game for $14.95 instead of $20. I haven't read much of this thread at all, so I'm not exactly sure what I should be training heh. Even though I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing, I'm having a great time. |

If you are trying to see if you like the game, though, don't take them too high. Get fun skills so you can use new toys. The only reason I survived the DO LEARNING TIL BASE ARE LEVEL 5, ADVANCED 4! month or two of hell was I had two characters and had one do learning while I used the other. It's super boring if you just do learnings.

| Thanks for the advice guys. I've got learning and iron will up to 3. I've basically been training my other skills as I need them. What ship do you recommend for lowbies? I bought a Merlin to replace my Ibis and it seems to be working out so far. I have two railguns and two missle launchers, but I have to keep everything else offline while all of my weapons are active. I wish it had more power, but I completely dominate all the NPC's in my path. It's really fun, can't wait to pilot the bigger ships. I had one of those volunteer guides contact me today, he was extremely helpful. I didn't even bother making a clone until he explained exactly what they did lol. |

| you can increase your ships powergrid, cpu, and capacitor (both max, and regen) through skills. engineering, electronics, energy management, energy systems operation....respectively. 5% boost per level. you buy skill books off of the market, and learn them by right click>train skill once you have it in a cargo hold. browse around the market window to see what you can get. There are skills that boost every facet of the game. |

If you buy the "Destroyers" skillbook and train it one or two levels, you should be able to get in a Cormorant, which is like your Merlin but with a ton of guns and more powergrid. It's a little heftier and slower but they are fairly cheap and take almost no extra training, so you might find them entertaining for a change of pace. Either your Merlin or a Cormorant should really eat through level 1 mission NPCs, as you've discovered. Level 2s are tougher -- you'll be able to do some, but others will do more damage than you can handle. For higher missions, you'll need to train bigger ships. The next step up is a cruiser. The biggest requirement skillwise is Caldari (or whatever race) Frigate IV, which might take two or three days training or so. You'll also need to train medium guns and/or heavy missiles, which are cruiser-sized weaponry (but that should be quick and cheap skills.) Which cruiser you get depends on whether you prefer guns or missiles. A Caracal is very missile-specialized, and a Moa has mostly guns with maybe one or two missile launchers. Both will be sufficient for missions, so it's a matter of taste. (Of course, you could train a different race instead, if that's your taste.) When you get a cruiser, you might also want to train drone skills, because they will have a drone bay with space for one or two. P.S. Like Kais mentioned, there are a billion skills you don't start with. Some have prerequisites (like the cruiser skills, which require frigate level IV) but some you probably already have the prereqs for. I strongly suggest you just open up the market and browse through the categories and descriptions. You'll probably find a lot of cheap ones that will help you out, and you can just buy them and train them to level 1 or 2 for a nice and relatively quick benefit. 90% of skillbooks are sold on the market by NPCs in unlimited quantities at "school" and "academy" stations all over the place, so don't buy them at rip-off prices from players if you can help it ![]() Last edited by Fog : 06-23-2008 at 06:52 PM.
