Hes not taking it to fleet battles, ass, just doing level 2s. As for doing level 2s, sure, why not rupture. Its a relatively cheap and overall pretty solid machine. I certainly think he could manage things in a destroyer, but a cruiser would be much safer and probably faster at things with its better tank and equivalent firepower, especially since it'd have a more leniant equiping ability with lower SPs

They're cheap, and don't need lots of skills to fly adequately.

I haven't made it to level2 missons yet, so I don't really know how big of a jump-up there is on difficulty. If it isn't a huge jump I could probably make the transition in a destroyer /shrug.

If I do continue to play EVE I'll def stay with small ships for some things (this is a covert ops char originally), but atm the size upgrades made a huge difference. I was able to do lvl1's in a Rifter but it was slow and a pain, the Thrasher made most of those easy/trivial. In the Rifter, I didn't have the range to snipe and if I wasn't careful going into range I'd get swarmed and killed fast. Maybe better skills would change that, I don't know. I did well enough to make money, but there isn't any competition between the Rifter and Thrasher, at least for me, imo.

Maybe when I get more skills (both game skills and playing skills) I'll be able to do more with less, but atm the diference between rifter and Thrasher was night and day. I was assuming that would be the same for Lvl2s going from Thrasher-Rupture.

Bear in mind that I am at 869,249 skill points atm.

There's a pretty big jump in difficulty. Doing a level 2 mission in a destroyer would be like doing a level 1 in a slasher (rather than your more powerful rifter) - you can do it, and you can even do it without many skills, but there's very little room for error and it will be slow going. That said, feel free to try! I did.

Level 2s are intended for a cruiser though.

Why would anyone do lvl 2 missions? Seriously, buy a BC in 2 more days of training.

with 5 lows and 3 mids, you're much better off concentrating on armor tanking and use the mids for ab, tracking comps, web, cap recharg, etc, whichever you prefer.

Also, the stabber has a nice niche as being insanely fast for a cruiser. I like using one as a ghetto blockade runner.

Hmm and you fit the destroyer with med turrets and do lvl-2 missions? When I tried it, it gave less standing and less isk/hour than rushing throu lvl-1 missions with a destroyer.

Level 2s are level 1s in almost every respect, except there is a slightly harder ship or two thrown in ocassionally. If you can do level 1s easily, you most likely can do level 2s easily. The jump in difficulty is really quite minor imo.

Battlecruisers are great for doing missions in for those with low SP. They are basically Cruisers 2.0. I would of course suggest any new players to train up and hop in one over a cruiser, but on the other hand they will cost you 25-40mil for the ship alone. Get in a cruiser, learn how to manuver a bit better in combat, and run level 2s until you can afford one (plus fittings and insurance!).

Eventually you will ease your way into level 3s which are great for a while. Between loot, bountys, and salvage, you will be making a bundle. Level 4s are a whole different ballgame. I suggest joining a 0.0 alliance and go ratting by then Missions are lonely, boring, and test your ships stamina (aka tons of ships at once). It is, however, generally safe from other players. Ratting on the other hand is much more fun and you always have to keep alert for enemy players. You may lose a ship here or there, but you make it up in no time. You get 1-2 BS per asteroid field with maybe 3 frig/cruiser escorts and just go from belt to belt farming. I enjoy ratting much more than missions and seem to make alot more faster. I cant stand going 100km from gate to gate in missions or taking on rooms of 20+ little ships at once.
