But yeah, you won't accomplish anything notable as a one-man operation. There are a few celebrity solo pirates, but they are a rarity. Wodin edit: The game soloable in that at no point do you have to group to "succeed." You can carve out a niche for yourself. It's just that you won't succeed at anything other than farming ISK and leeching patronage from one larger corp or another. If you want to actually do something you need support. | early in the game you can solo np... most npc ratting period is done solo or maybe duo, you can mine solo or do missions solo... if you wanna get into the pvp and 0.0 then you need a corp... but its entirely possible and prolly even normal to train up your first million - 2 million sp without grouping up much. |

| Frott: I'm having no problem adapting to the game with no prior knowledge just using the tutorial and letting it push me ahead one little bit at a time. I particularly liked that it opened up just a little bit of the interface at a time. Also, it doesn't stop after the initial tutorial shit, and I got a little tutorial popup to buy insurance when I got in my new ship. Anyways, the tutorial worked great for me. It's a little slow paced and describes everything, at worst it's too slow at getting you through to the action. The real problem, I think, is if you don't have a mind for the stats and mechanics of gameplay, the various info screens can be a bit daunting. |

+3 Internets | Oh god, yes. That's one thing we should probably add to the original post. Right click -> Show Info on absolutely everything you can get your hands on. Curious about something? Right click. Need to find out what exists in a solar system? Right click on space, select stuff from the dropdown. A durable mouse is the best thing ever.

| Solo - Easy. I solo a ton, mostly Lvl 3's. I fly a Raven, not quite setup like most others either, I use a full passive tank. I call it the lazy mans mission runner as you turn nothing on, worry about no specific resist and just have to load the right missles and off you go. This is one of the great things in Eve, there is usually more than one way to rig your ship to get the job done. When I mine I use an second account with some good hauling skills to avoid the ore thieves. I worked my way into a Cov barge and alt uses an Itteron Mark V hauler. Alts - Only one character at a time can train, keep this in mind. If you want to train up an Alt at the same time as your main, they need to be on their own account. |

You can often just double left click on an item to bring up show info as well. Works for overview objects too.

| Wanted to use my "Virgin Post" to say Thank God for this thread. Kept trying to get into Eve but the learning curve post-Tutorial is insanely tough. Some quick questions though. 1. Heard from a few sources that its worth going through tutorial to get some special item that you can sell for quick cash. I might start up the game again, but already understand the basics of control and such Can you skip the tutor and still reap the benefits of it? 2. Can anyone explain the different ways to buy and sell stuff? The tutorial only really explains how to buy/sell to the Empire. I kept getting the feeling that if I only knew how to use the Player Market (or whatever there is) I could be getting more money/cheaper items. Thanks, and keep up the awesome info. |

| There's a pretty big following of people who play EVE on FoH boards, I'm kinda surprised there isn't a sub forum just for EVE, and for that matter WoW, EQ2 and so forth. Until recently, everything about EVE was posted in one enormous 120 page thread where the same questions and topics came up multiple times. Think it's about time to get a dedicated forum for EVE. |

Also gives people a better chance to get interested in eve. If it was in its own sub forum, only the eve players would go there. Having all the games on one forums lets people who don't play those games see something interesting and learn from the people playing it.

+3 Internets | Oh, and the sandbox nature of the game seems to be a huge deterant for a lot of people. There is no real end game to aim for. You really need to make your own goals and set about achieving them. Of course it takes bit of knowledge and experience to know what goals you can set and how to go about achieving them. This is why soloing it still very much an option. There's plenty of stuff you can do solo if that's what you want to do. You will not be able to capture systems and hold them solo though. Most of the exciting stuff you hear about is done at the alliance level, which are groups of corpse (guilds) working together. Last edited by Faille : 11-17-2006 at 05:43 PM. |

| I've played EVE since beta, have to say there is just so much to learn, you're never done because the game is so open ended as to how you can play it and define "success" or "fun"; no tutorial can do it justice. Best way I know of is to get involved with a corporation as early as possible, socialise and specialise as soon as you're comfortable with a certain type of game play you'd like to do. |
