| Ceptors went from completely unkillable op trollboats to barely killable when the pilot has good skills unless he fucks up. Now unless the gatecamp is completely brainless, all cov ops are doa.

| I played for a couple months like a year ago but really can't remember a damn thing about the game so I decided to fire up a new character and run through all the tutorial missions. It's been fun so far and I'm running some missions for the Sisters of Eve in my Punisher since all my tutorial contacts kept suggesting their agent to me. Anyone have any advice on what I should build for? I have my learning skills all up to level 3 so far and have been picking up some useful skills here and there. I'm putting off level 4 on the learning skills until a couple days from now when I'll be too busy to log on and play and will just knock them all out back to back. Should I be shooting to move up straight to a Cruiser of some kind from my Punisher? (I'm Amarr) I don't mind running some more missions in this ship while I raise funds and let my skills get up to par. My goal for the moment is mainly PvE running missions, eventually building up to level 4's. Any advice is greatly appreciated. (I spent a bunch of time today reading the last 30 pages of this thread getting little bits and pieces of info as I found it but haven't really seen anything yet for a good progression path for an Amarr pve mission pilot. I'll probably end up reading the whole thread in the coming days a bit at a time.) |

| I wouldn't hurry to jump into a cruiser just yet. It's the case in Eve, at least for your first few months, that you can easily get into the cockpit of ships you really shouldn't be flying. In between your learning skills work on the basics like Electronics, Engineering, Energy Management, Energy Systems Ops, Navigation, Signature Analysis, Long Range Targeting, Targeting, Shield Management, Shield Operation, Mechanic, Hull Upgrades, Weapons skills, Drone skills, etc. IE your support skills. There's about 20 skills or so that I consider the "basics". Pretty much anything that directly makes *any* ship better. They all have low prereqs and even training 2-3 levels is fast and gives you a lotta bang for your training time buck (something you'll miss later on!). Also train Social and Connections (just "Connections", not the other types) to 3 or so, as that will help you hit higher level agents much faster when you want to. |

Engineering - to maximize the power core. Electronics - to maximize the CPU. Energy Management - to maximize the capacitor capacity. Energy Systems Operation - to maximize the rate at which the capacitor recharges. Energy Grid Upgrades - to reduce the CPU requirements of installing power modules. Mechanic - To maximize hull strength. Shield Management - to maximize shield capacity. Shield Operation - to maximize the rate at which the shield recharges. Hull Upgrade - To maximize armor strength. Repair Systems - To be able to operate the best armor and hull repair modules. Do not forget to train up your basic learning skills to 4 and the advanced to 3 if you plan on staying in EVE longer than a year.

| Thanks for the great advice guys. I've got most of those skills you talked about at 2 or 3. I picked up a few you mentioned that I had missed and am training them up to 3 now as well. As for the ship upgrade path, I'd like to move out of my frigate as soon as it's efficient to do so and therefore be able to run harder missions. I've seen alot of debate between moving up to a destroyer or just skipping it for a cruiser. Do you guys think a destroyer is worth the effort or should I just keep saving and building skills to go up to a cruiser when my skills are up to par? Last edited by Auren; 05-13-2009 at 08:34 AM.. |
