+6 Internets | Oh my god drone hotkeys...I'd almost resub just to see the new graphics, I guess I could always get a trial account and run over to a quest hub to check out the new ships. |

SA is Something Awful, the Eve Online section has some nice info click. PA is Penny Arcade, home of the corp Merch Industrial which is part of Goonswarm. There's a general info thread in the MMO subforums. And a merchi recruitment one in the games forums if you're ever interested in joining them. Probably the best place for info on the current politics and general eve info is the goonfleet wiki. There's a few public pages that are viewable for anyone but most of it is private and for goonswarm members only. I've seen parts of it copy pasted into the eve-wiki but from what I've seen it's no where near as complete as the goonfleet one. | |

| So I just got my cruiser skill trained and I'm working on training all my other basic skills like all my electronic and engineering skills etc but I was wondering what a decent cruiser would be for a Gallente pilot to start with? I was thinking the Thorax myself as it looks to be the most well rounded cruiser. Also, are combat drones really that good? Gallente seem to have a heavy use in them and I am not sure quite how to use them so any info on combat drones would be useful. Also if the Thorax would not be a good choice, could I just get some tips on what a good cruiser/fitting would be? ![]() Thanks guys. ![]() |

| Drones are *very* good. Especially when you are first starting out they will account for a substanial amount of your dps. Think of them as pets. Not every ship can use drones, but most Gallente ships can, and as you've seen some get nice drone bonuses. Using them is pretty simple. There's only two things to be aware of on ships - drone bay space and bandwidth. Drone bay space range from 0 (can't use drones) to over 600 (can hold lots o drones). Bandwidth is, along with skills and an ingame hardcap, determines how many drones you can be using in space at once. Drones come in 3 sizes - light (5m3), medium (10m3), and heavy (25m3). The m3 is what you look at for determining how many drones a ship can hold (you can mix and match different sizes if you want) and how many you can have out at once. For instance, a Raven has 75m3 drone bay space, meaning it can hold a combination of say, 5 lights and 5 mediums, or 15 lights, or 3 heavys, or any other combination that adds up to 75m3. The Raven only has 50 bandwidth however, meaning you can control only 2 heavy drones, or 5 medium, or 1 heavy and 2 medium and 1 light, or any combination thereof. However, there is a cap on how many drones you can control (besides bandwidth). Normal ships (not capital ships, which you don't even need to think about this early in your career) won't allow you to control more than 5 drones at once, regardless of size, or drone bay size, or anything else. However, you need the Drones skill to use *any* drones at all, and you can use 1 per level of the skill. Skillwise, you'll want Drones to 5, one of the earliest skills to 5 I'd say. You'll also want Combat Drone Operation, which gives a 5% damage bonus per level to light and medium drones. Scout Drone Operation will give you 5000m range bonus on your drones per level (your drone range is 20k base + 5k per lvl of SDO + 3k per level of Electronic Warfar Drone Interfacing + ship bonus if there is one + Drone Augmentor ship mod if you choose to use them). The absolute nicest drone skill is Drone Interfacing, which will give you a whopping 20% damage bonus for drones per level. This is a killer skill, and getting that even to level 4 will make you fall in love with your drones all over again. To use your drones, just stick them in your ship (remember, the drone bay, NOT the ship bay) and use the Drone Overview under your normal Overview to launch them, have them attack targets, and recall them. |

| One point to remember, is that you want to always RECALL your drones to their drone bay before you warp off. It's not automatic recall , if they get left behind where there are NPC's they will get destroyed , and anyone can scoop them up who has cargo room which may or may not give you info on who scooped your drones. Leaving them behind gets expensive and its time consuming to warp back and scoop them. |
