Beta 4. So what's the deal, all beta stages are about the same duration except for 5?

Good question, if it's like WoW's stress test, might see a mid-late feb launch. I'm probably just wishful thinking though.

You wish for a February launch? I thought the game was nowhere ready to be released.

There *was* a starting area near BC about a year ago.

Thestra underwent a revamp to improve quests/graphics. Visually it is quite different then you probably remember (improved).

Soy, I don't recall (and perhaps you can refresh my memory) that Req or any of the mods signed the Sigil NDA argreement. Now I am certainly not an E-Lawyer, but I think I am smart enough to understand that if Joe Sixpack_01 signs an NDA with Sigil and breaks it, the problem exists between Sigil and old Joe there, not with the forum on which Joe does his "dirty deed".

Now maybe you are coming from the angle of Sigil putting pressure on Req et all to get rid of stuff like that "or else" and I have to kind of wonder what that "or else" entails ? No more gorilla marketing threads ? No more pure hype and spin control with an old screenshot attached ?

I don't see the lever here, I really don't. Brad (and any other dev) gains far more by posting here then we gain from their posting. Yes we get a good source of "inside information" and even in some cases its true (hi2uScott!!), but they get a open venue to promote their products here, and it doesn't cost them a dime.

If anything, the lever is in Req's hand, not Brads.

The NDA breaching post was removed by Black Hand, that should give you a clue.

And the fact that devs post here is a serious selling point for the forum, no matter what they say. Without the devs, its just another hobby hole for jackasses.

Freely trading copyrighted material in violation of copyright law is far and away removed from NDA (whatever that means) violations.

I suggest you read the Digital Millenium Copyright Act to see just what the board owners / mods are required to do, it is rather enlightening.

Every wonder why Ebay won't pull obviously wrong / hateful / decitful feedback? Well what is stated above is why, they give up all culpability for what is said on their sites by not getting involved in censoring.

The board owners could have left the patch notes on, or they could have deleted the patch notes -- completely there choice. They choose to delete it -- okay with me (of course I already y read the patch notes). They are under no legal obligation to Sigil (that I am aware of -- for all I know they could all be in the Vanguard beta or have a secret unholy pact with SOE). I would assume they removed the notes as a courtesy to Brad & Co. Not because they want or need Brad & co. to post here -- but maybe because they know the guy and maybe even like him.

The only obligation a board owner might (and emphasis is on might) have is if someone were to post defamatory material on the board and (and this is a big and) the board owners were aware of the post, were aware the post was defamtory and had been asked to remove, and failed to remove the post by the defamed person. Edit: Even then they're still probably not liable (at least in the US) the bigger problem would be in the UK which has crappy freedom of the press laws.

Well...I am a developer on the project, and this site is also MY house as a guild founder and member. As Furor so eloquently put many years ago, "Don't come here and shit on our lawn!"

With that said, I've asked from time to time to have something removed that violated the NDA, however most times, as was the case with the patch notes, the moderators are way ahead of me. Believe it or not, the guys run a tight ship and we should all respect that. There is no shortage of smack talk and I am cool with that, but you have to draw the line somewhere, and the NDA stuff warrants a modicum of respect. If the situation were reversed I can assure you, you would act the same way.

Fear not though. Beta 4 will not last too long and with the next phase we are almost certainly lifting the NDA. Expect a mixed bag of feedback, as with any other title. We were forced into beta WAY WAY too early and paid a heavy PR price, however the game has come a very long way since then. I am proud of where we are now, and the progress continues.

I personally cannot wait for this game to be released, hopefully Beta 4-5 only put it a couple weeks behind TBC, though from my understanding of the leaked notes, there's still a bit of work left to go, so I'm not expecting it to beat TBC to the shelves or anything. Which would be reasonable, I assume.

PS, NDA leaks on public message boards is never cool =/

Beat TBC to the shelves? It's not like VG is competing against TBC, it would change very little as far as the box sales are concerned... heck most WoW players have not even heard of VG.
