The thing about VG is it was way overhyped and now expectations are pretty much in the shitter for most people. Thats probably a good thing considering the state of the game and all the changes that are being made at nearly the zero hour.

We'll find out in a few months for sure. There will always be people defending the game (SWG & AO Beta anyone) right up until the very end. There will always be people trashing the game. When the NDA drops and the wave of praise or crap comes flowing thats when we'll know. I have a feeling there will be a lot of posts like this:

"Lots of potential but stay clear for now"

"could be a great game but..."

Potential is great, I don't plan on waiting a year or two for them to figure out what is fun though.

Brad and his teams post alludes to this, specifically saying "this game is not the messiah" that everyone is making it out to be etc. Brad always (for years now) made such a huge deal out of how important it was to correctly manage his communities expectations.

I would say that at least by his post that effort has been a partial, if not complete failure.

There will always be those that hate and those that love the game. I find it to be quite fun even in it's unfinished state but I think the sigil team has said all along that this game will not be for everyone.

True enough. Many NA's put up with Lineage 2 and all its severe short commings. If Matrix Online can make it under Sony's all access pass so can Vanguard. I dont' have much faith in what sub #'s they will release nor the future of Vanguard. Its not in Sony's or Brad's best interest and I'm not holding my breath that Vanguard will all of a sudden be ready for release in a couple more months because it won't.

Wow, there's hyperbole at it's finest. I can't believe you just compared Matrix Online with Vanguard, despite the fact they are obviously no where close in quality. Vanguard may have it's shortcomings, but it's no MO.

There hasn't been a mmorpg that was ready for launch, imo. WoW was stable and good to go for the most part, especially for the lower levels. But most games lack the finish for mid-end game.

QFT (and WoW did/does have some bugs/issue at start -- not including opening day/week crashes due to load -- but was probably the most bugfree MMO I've played -- and we all got used to the 12 hour maintainences every Tuesday...).

No matter what the reports after the NDA I'll buy Vanguard when it comes out. I'll keep my expectations low -- I won't expect Vanguard to be 100% stable -- or even 80% bugfree -- and hopefully I'll enjoy the gam.

I fully expect whatever server I end up on to crash a couple of times opening day and opening week -- but hey that's half the fun of opening week trying outlevel all 500+ other guys in your newbie zone(s) in the first few hours so you can move on to more stable (slightly above newbie) zones.

And if it turns out that Vanguard sucks balls... well so-it-goes but Brad still gets my 49.99 -- if I can give George Lucas 49.99 for SWG -- I can certainly give Brad 49.99 for what will no-doubt be a far, far better game. I just don't get the weird -- you're a fucking moron to try it vibe from some of the posters on this thread -- why the fuck would anyone care if I blew money on a game?

And if the only reward is that I then get to bitch about the game on this (or another) forum for the next few years -- well thats like the cherry in my tom collins.

A-farggin-men. I was there burning vacation days for SWG release. Nothing can lower my expectations after that fiasco. Best two MMO releases I'm aware of are CoH and WoW. And no, end game content does not factor into a good release

No I'm saying that the total doomsayers here are wrong and that Vanguard isn't going to be a total flop. Like I said if Matrix online can survive Vanguard will do just fine on its own with its own market. Just like L2 and many other games that are not by any means huge hits but still survive and make money (NA markets)

Frankly seeing Vanguard under the station pass isn't a ringing endorsement, more of a sign of mediocrity IMO but regardless it will draw subs and do just fine regardless if its ready or not for release.

Heh yeah I was in SWG beta so I knew what was coming... and I bought it anyway. Dont ask, cause I dont know why. At the end of the day though, it was no different than dropping money on a single player game I got bored with after a few days and never played again, and there have been dozens of them.

If you cant spare the 50 bucks, wait until you get a free trial on any game. If you can spare it and you want to try a new game I dont know why you wouldnt try it for yourself unless absolutely everyone said they hated it and it had no redeeming value whatsoever. This goes for any game not just Vanguard.

After all the WoW hype my highest character is 20 something, I barely played it. CoH same thing, it was great for a month or two, then meh. Meanwhile I maxed out a Zerker in EQ2, didnt even have plans to buy that game. Never know what you'll like until you try.

Yep. Brad's idea to get the community started years prior to release might've helped him build up one of the largest pre-release MMOG communities, but he did so by simultaneously building up people's expectations, something that is now coming back to bite him. Brad didn't keep people's expectations in line with how things actually would be, probably because it looked like a good thing to have everyone all excited, but now people are seeing that those expectations aren't being met, so what good does having such a huge community do?

The original Vanguard community consisted mainly of ex-EQ players who got disappointed with the way the game went after Brad left SoE. Now he finally returned and promised them a game that would give them the old feeling of EQ from the beginning to Velious back. That was what people expected and that's why many of those people are not happy with what it turned out to be.

Now he finally kicks them in the ass by telling them that EQ is still out there to be played. How can you insult your own day-1 community members like that? Does he think he doesn't need them anymore? Those people are not an FAQ that you can simply delete and nobody cares. Those guys knew about his mistakes with the original EQ and still wanted to give him a second chance. Now he screwed them again.

Well done, Brad! Don't expect to get a third chance, at least not from this generation of players. You need to wait for all the 8-year old to become 14 before you can try this again, unfortunately you will have run out of publishers by then.

I have one question for Brad or people in the Beta...

Is this info Correct ?
Vanguard Fighters - Content
Vanguard Fighters - Content

Because you have got to be kidding me, this is as bad as EQ2 & WoW.
I refuse to play a class with 10.000 skills, 99.99% of them useless or situational.

7 Finishers ? HELLO isnt 1 Execute-clone enough ?

Fuck Bards and Keystroke per Second Contest.
I want to play a Warrior, not a bard/secretary !

And dont give me any of that "Attack Chain" bullshit.
Copy FFXI system if you want to make Chains
