Hah. This post made it worth reading this thread.

Those screens look good, but I'm wary of the framerates still.

I have no idea whether or not VG is gonna be my next MMO, or even if I intend to play one after WoW. But it seems like Brad and his team are putting a lot of work into their product, I sure don't mind him posting updates. It would be nice to play another MMO with a strong group dynamic that is sorely lacking from WoW.

edit: And actually, being a former musician, I'm looking forward to the music Vanguard is using. Seems like they put a lot of thought into the composition for different areas based on their website.

a. false

b. false

You can be skeptical and critical all you want, but I will call the flat out misinformation. Heck, SLI isn't even working yet, so b. cannot be true, your statement is so ironic.

In any case, we are doing everything we can do reduce the grind -- you would know that had you researched the game. And you don't need an uber machine to play the game -- you would know that if you researched the game.

Are you trolling? Likely. I just don't want anyone to read misinformation without doing the research -- please do read what's been written now by beta testers, journalists, etc. The NDA isn't gone, and it won't be until beta 5, but in a sense it's slowly chipping away as the game is being finished up and polished up.

Must have been bored already to be here posting about a game you don't care about until the NDA is released

And so while I respect the fact that you supposedly aren't interested until the NDA is released, why don't you actually DO what you post and let us know what's on your mind once that does indeed occur?

(a) is subjective, so it's impossible to give it a blanket true or false. I suspect many people will consider the grind in VG to be tedious (especially after WoW), you're welcome to disagree though.

Compared with WoW, cutting your fingernails would could be considered a 'grind'.

I don't disagree. However, to make a blanket statement of "False" on the subject of VG's leveling curve is a bit silly. I would wager a good portion of people who try VG after playing WoW will indeed find the levelling curve tedious. Do you disagree?

So Brad...hey bud...um yeah

Is there already a write up somewhere about how the gameplay is in VG concerning healing and support? What can you share with us about that? Some specifics I'd like to know:

-Do all support healers get effective group heals

-Will raiding as a healer involve having huge lists of names that you must click on manually

-Will there be any innovative targeting functions

-Will you allow mods that allow healers freedom to work in other things such as offensive moves while easily covering their healing role

-Are there any features that allow healers to keep everyone alive while having the option to look at the dungeon as you crawl through; in other words you don't have to stare at everyone's health bars or risk losing them

If this stuff is already covered somewhere I'd appreciate being pointed in the right direction.

Well sure they'd think it was tedious, but it's all based on point of view. Compared to Lineage 2, VG's 'grind' would be a cakewalk. From the WoW perspective, it would be tedious.

So to say Vanguard had a tedious leveling curve is all based on perspective. It all depends on the game you are coming from.

You have a friendly target + hostile target, so I imagine that will help a bit for classes that have both offensive and defensive roles at least.

Hence my original point that it's completely subjective, and you can't make a blanket true or false statement

To be more accurate, any shader model 2 card will display that. At a playable framerate at that rez, yes, a higher end gaming machine.

But most players won't be playing with all settings on high and at 1920x1200. Now, and certainly by launch, $1k machines will be playing the game fine at the same or lower settings, but not at that rez.

Fair enough. My point was that the game is not being designed to be a grind and that we're avoiding repetitive tedious gameplay wherever possible. But yes, just as many people consider WoW or any other MMOG to be a grind at times, I'm sure Vanguard will no exception. To completely remove the grind you would have to completely eliminate doing anything more than once, or anything that resembled or had the same 'feeling' as something you did before. Single player games have issues with this, and it's a bigger challenge for MMOGs. I think we've done a good job, but at the same time there's been no magical pardigm shift where we've discovered a way to make virtually infinite and uniquely playing content

Using that perspective, which is legit, I agree. The game is more challenging that WoW but closer to WoW than L2 in this area, that's for sure
