Well it is beta software -- and they are working on it. I'm not sure about how "harsh" the death penalty is -- AFAIK there is no de-leveling. Corpse runs in the wrong place could be uber-annoying -- but I"m not sure they would be anymore annoying than constant massive repair costs (a la WoW).

You just flat out made up shit. No dev has ever said in response to the hitching "buy a new computer". They've always said what i quoted. You're just here as usual with your half-truths and bullshit. For the people who actually give a shit about the game and want to know about it, i simply gave them the real answer.

Then again, i really should have thought about who i was responding to. People stopped listening to you about 100 pages ago.

Actually, I've seen dev responses along the lines of 'future computers will run our game better'.

The argument against Vanguard citing a necessary system upgrade is not only a tired one, but a false one.

I have seen, first-hand, a 3+ year-old system run Vanguard just fine. Does it look as pretty as the PR screenshots? Of course not. However, it still plays the same. The system being cited:

2.8GHz P4 Processor
Radeon 9700 Pro 128MB GPU
1.5GB RAM
800MHz frontside bus
80 GB 7200 RPM hard drive

On top of that, recently there have been numerous visual tweaks and optimizations that improved performance overall by a noticeable amount. Considering the target audience of Vanguard (the core gamer), expecting the average player to have a system on par or above the aforementioned one, especially with continuing improvements to the game's performance, is logical.

'future computers will run our game better' is not equivalent to 'buy a new computer'.

It's implied even if unsaid. It always is, that is the name of PC gaming, people are always salivating about the next big thing in computers, talking about upgrading, wishing for a more beefy rig so they can max out the graphics etc. Even if Sigil didn't actually say that, it's always implied.

It's the retards running the shit computers that were high end in 1999 that end up fucking all new games up with their whines about performance, frame rate and how shitty the game looks on their system and their demands that game companies fix their shit.

In my mind, it most certainly is equivalent.

Some people act like if the framerate was the only problem with this game.

And other people act like the game is a released reviewable product (or at least in an open/stresss beta) instead of in a closed beta.

Nah. Right now how my PC runs EQ1 is how a super computer would run it. It's maxed out. Probably the same with EQ2 and WoW. Whereas for Vanguard I have to run default settings and turn of some stuff here and there. A supercomputer on the other hand would run it all on high at 60 FPS, i.e. "better".

Its not going to change much by Q1 so what you see is pretty much what you get aside from some bug fixes and perhaps a few tweaks but the core game is in.

Well, ignoring the fact that it is still a closed under-NDA beta for a moment, are you somehow suggesting that there won't be performance or content enhancements between now and release? Are you additionally suggesting that -- despite the fact that there were some recent combat changes -- (and this comes from the posts on this thread maybe 30 pages ago not my french friend in the beta) -- that there will be no additional changes to core mechanics?

Are you also suggesting that the game will for sure, cross-my-heart-hope-to-die, come out in Q1? Are you also suggesting that even if the game comes out in Q1 (i.e. March) that some of the things people have bitched about -- at length -- on this and other Vanguard threads can't be fixed (note i said "some" not "everything").

If so, how do you know all these things?

Now if people are bitching about stuff that Brad & co. have indicated will not be in at release (e.g. mounted combat) but was initially supposed to be in at release then fair enough bitch away about that -- but I think it is ridiculous given recent history (of VG and MMOs generally in terms of release dates and changes in beta) to assert that what we have now is exactly what we're going to get at release (sans a few bugs).

Edit: Nairbog beat me too it.
