Looks like there isn't an in-game fix, Ells. I'm sure they'll get to that problem soon enough.

I ended up getting an Audigy2ZS to compensate and haven't had any issues; it is pretty cheap compared to the laptop and sounds better in pretty much all of my games, at least in the opinion of this half-deaf individual

I went ahead and ordered one as well, 94 dollars with shipping, 30 dollar mail in rebate. I figure you can't go wrong with that. I wonder, does the onboard audio end up slowing overall performance by eating more cpu cycles? Similar to onboard NIC?

Basically, I'm wondering if I bought myself a few extra FPS for 60 bucks.

If your CPU was getting bottlenecked then yes. Otherwise no. Its really hard to say, if you were having compatibility issues or if your CPU is getting worked then yah you will notice a difference. Much like if you are using a video card with old drivers and then update them, there will be a difference.

It might not be noticeable in every game or application but for the one that it is noticeable it will be worth it.

Well, currently there is this one game. I'm testing it more than playing it. But there is alot of 'audio tearing' which I can only assume is due to performance issues with the soundcard. Am I right?

Yes, you should see a difference in FPS. Just make sure you change the settings to 'Hardware' in the settings window. I play on a top of the line XPS M1710 and I had to get an external sound card to avoid the glitching and stuttering. There are still some optimizations we need to do to the sound streams though, so it will get better yet.

Well looks like I need to ask Santa for a UBS sound card for Christmas.

I take it there will be an FoH presence in Vanguard ;-) Wasn't on Veeshan with you guys in EQ -- but did appreciate the rapid AV honor on Hyjal in WoW.

my biggest issue right now (performance issue) and maybe someone has a fix for me?

Why do textures only load when you look at them? (or feel this way) It makes the game play stuttery and makes it feel like poor performance.

When i load the game and let the textures load i can than run straight ahead with no lag, but if i turn I have to wait for them to load again. If i look at something new same deal. If i enter a building same thing.

This is really annoying and I have never had any other game do this to me. I rally don't think it is a computer memory issue as I have 3 gigs of ram and a 512mb gefore 7 series PCI-X card, etc...

Will it always be this way? It seems strange i have not read anyone else posting anything like this but when i ask in game i get told everyone has that issue. to me that is huge problem. Once i load the game I want to play without freezing unless i zone (change chunk) or something.

Asset loading has obviously been the number 1 issue with performance in Vanguard. It also saddens me when the 'official' response is to build a computer with higher bus speeds or change your drive solution to something better.

When I was visiting my french friend in france who is in the french beta I noticed that when he zones he takes a 360 turn to look at all the terrain and load it up while simultaneoulsy eating some fromage. But that's the french for you.

yea but every building or anything hidden behind a building or any land mass does the same thing all over again. shouldn't it just load a 360 degree area around you?

Assets are loaded and unloaded on a temporal basis, not spacial. This is why if you go in a building, do some crafting, then leave.. all the assets have to be reloaded. Instead of just loading stuff around you and keeping it loaded, it loads and unloads based on how long it's been since you used said assets.

At least that is how it was last I saw a dev post on it about a month ago.

I really hope this gets better or changes somehow, because right now it is almost a game breaker for me.

I hate freezing up in games randomly. I would rather zone and know that i am going to freeze and plan for it. especially for a game that is touting bringing back harsh death penalties.

what are you talking about? The official response is and has been they're working on asset loading times, and it's a priority. Pry your head out of yer ass and get over Vanguard already, ricky.
