It's like CoH, ffXI, Planetside, etc... definately worth checking out for a month or two. Nobody says you have to make a career out of every MMO you play.

I checked it out on one of the free weekends. Fun game, I remember being really bowled over by the PVP.

Why does that game look so awesome yet run as smooth as WoW? I really want those guys to make a real MMORPG.

damn. i'm going to be busy through the preview event.

how does it look so pretty and run so smooth? excelent use of textures, zones (zones vs one giant world helps a ton), and most importantly the graphics were made by asians. Realy if you run around in GW and scope out the terrain it seems to me that the GW terrain designers are basicly masters of illusion. they use alot of simple tricks and great artistic style to realy make an impressive world.

S.U.N. or one of the new super-cool looking webzen games runs on the GW engine iirc.

what is the GW engine? Is it wholly proprietary? PvP game was fast and it finished fast. I hear there's some new tracking and territory marking. But got a little tiring of" TEAM KOREA WINS".

Not really, they only sold a million boxes from each of their original game and expansion and there's only around 3,000 50-100 man guilds in game so pretty deserted yeah.

Guild Wars can be a whole lot of fun if you approach it with some friends and the right attitude.
Some of my fondest gaming memories have been running the original PVE campaign with 5 or 6 friends in vent.

I think wow's enormous success has clouded some of you.

3000 x 100 = 300.000 players - that's not deserted, come to think of it that's pretty nice. Before wow only eq and lineage were above 300k players.

Come to think of it, no monthly quote and 300k players? that's a nice deal.

I think he was being sarcastic. Although I could be wrong.

Yeah, I enjoyed Guild Wars immensely for a couple of months running the story campaign with a friend. But I'm the type of player that loves item acquisition and HATES crafting. Don't really care for PvP much either. Although I recognize Guild Wars as a great game, it just isn't great for the type of player that I am.

EDIT: WOW that new character select screen kicks so much ass.

Yeah, the sarcasm was pretty apparent in Zaniel's post.

Guildwars is fun and it looks great. But without a crew to play with, I lost interest.
