+5 Internets | Pokemon/Yu-Gi-Oh MMO? Per the thread in the other games forum that brought it up, it got me thinking. How would you design an MMO based around either of those games or similar? You're a "wizard/trainer/dueler" who collects "monsters/cards" from the "world/shops/etc" and uses them to battle other people's "monsters/cards." At first glance it seems like it'd make a shallow PvP game and a total grind of a PvE game. Would turn-based have to go? I'd think so, though I have no idea how that'd work real time. So, how would you design it? Idle curiosity. ![]() |

| Well for one, there would need to be a weather and environment system that caused pros and cons to your choice of pet/attack. Also a healthy amount of expansive player-owned real estate for all of the monster rancher type of stuff. Was animal crossing a game like that? Never knew anyone who played it. |

| I would really like a mini-game type monster/card game in a regular mmorpg, but I think it would get old too fast for it to be a stand-alone mmo. Though I dunno if anyone could think of a way to actually get people interested if it's just a mini-game. Last edited by Erie; 09-14-2006 at 06:55 PM.. |

+25 Internets | Less FF bitching, more Yugioh bashing, plzkthnx. I like the idea of a mini game or something like that, though, in an mmo. But not a whole mmo based on the idea.

| Sailor Moon: The Goku Chronicles. Seriously though, a mini-game "card" collection deal would be fun and relatively easy to impliment. I mean really, the mechanics behind pokemon aren't -that- complicated.

+1 Internets | The card game from xenosaga I rocked out. I think a pokemon/critter/card collecting fighting game would be popular if exicuted well. and I don't think turn based would have to be 'abandoned' but changed. for instance what if you can only activate a card/skill/power/monster/thingy every 5 seconds you've essentialy created a situation where the game isn't a twitch fest, but penalizes some one who takes long turns. maybe there could be a mode to play where you do go turn based with no turn limit, and you'd presumably use the option against foes you know arn't retarded. maybe going over a certain amount of time adversely effects your lifebar (or whatever you have). maybe you reward a quick game with points/faction/player rank/whatever. I think there's alot of ways to aproach turn based mmo that would work. Last edited by ...; 09-15-2006 at 10:03 AM.. |
