He was kidnapped by some Sarnak. He'll appear on the cover of EoF just like Fironia on the Kunark box. /nod

A) how is my UI an Monstrosity, it barely has anything on screen.
What is needed in a UI: zero to one hotkey bars, buffs windows, group window, target window, chat window, 'self' window. Everything else is in the way. Stuff like the big glowing numbers, the timers and descriptions on the buffs, the (8 full bars, is it?) huge number of hotkeys.

Quote:
b) I play 6-8 Characters, you honestly want me to memorize 1000+ skills/shift commands + consumables and cool down timers? How do I know when my skills are up again? ESP? That's fucking retarded
/shrug different strokes and all that. I dont find these to be things that require memorizing or ESP, just experiance. After you play a couple hours with one character, your fingers are pgrammed to hit these thing at the right time, you dont have to actually *think* about it anymore.

Aside from which, when you hit Shift3-1, it takes you to page 3, you see that skill #1 is up, and you hit it. The point is you dont need to see all 100 hotkeys at once. Only the one youre about to hit. And you dont really need to see that one, you just hit the '1' key and it goes off.

Simplicity is good, and eliminating uneccessary elements from UIs is a good thing. The default UI is fine once you get rid of all the crap you dont need.

You retards think your UI preference is the best? Everyone has their own preference. The best UI is the one that accomodates all perferences through customization.

D&D Online had no way to assign keybinds to additional hotkey-bars you placed when it was released - and it sucked.

Pressing Shift+2 etc to switch between them is much more of a hassle than having 4 of or so bars open and simply hitting the according binding right away, with the ability to check for the keybind by simply looking at ability you plan on using, without having to switch to the right bar first.

There sure are many cases in which "too much" is tried to be displayed on an UI at the same time. However hotkey-bars are the last place to look for that, imho. If the game requires you to have 40-80 buttons ready to use and the only way to trigger the abilities is by hitting a button, then you need to see the buttons you might have to use at all time.

Now if it's good design to require that many buttons at any time, that's a different question (,

It shows in the final product, otherwise EQ2 would have a fuck of a lot more than 175k and falling, and WoW would not have 6 million plus. I excuse bugs coming from a test bed to a live server farm for Blizzard OR SOE. But this isn't that case - and you fucking know it. Now we are talking about flat out mechanics and design of the game. Christ, people without armor in EQ2 can solo the same damn mobs they can without armor. How fucking broken does it have to get for Christ's sake? And in those examples given, where communication was wide open up until the transition from test to live, why didn't a developer that he was talking to just quit talking altogether?

If I ever saw a major bug in beta for WoW, I would throw Furor an email and he would reply and let me know if they already knew about it or if it was on a list to get fixed. Then it usually got fixed in the next patch cycle. End of story. This is different though from a transitional bug that comes up on a live server load for which you cannot simulate. And as I said, I forgive both Blizzard AND SOE for those. But given those examples in that post, EQ2 devs knew about those bugs but didn't bother to acknowledge them.

There is no way you even read his post. Because you do not have one leg to stand on in that argument. Hartsman may be fantastic for EQ2. Too bad the majority of the team doesn't have a clue about the design of their title. It has happened in every game SOE makes. SWG was so bad that they just kept altering key elements of the game so new developers coming in could understand what was going on. It's a fundamental flaw in SOE design where egos get in the way of making a great game, where developers think they are never wrong even when the answers are right in front of their face, and the end ressult is a lackluster product. Which a good majority think EQ2 is.

And we are tired of you always posting useless shit. You said it once, you said it twice, hell you said it 10000000 times...we know you dont like SoE, so stop saying.

Then quit posting idiotic things to have to reinforce points or refer back to posts people didn't bother reading before jumping the gun on replies.

I don't hate SOE. They make terrible games at the moment because they have people that do not care about making games on a quality term of scale. Re-read the post that a couple people above have given, and that is where SOE needs to improve, Drastically.

What they need to do is make about 300 clones of Hartsman, or hire people that care about making quality video games, know their product, play their product, and love doing what they do.

It hampers SOE at the moment. And they should attempt to fix that type of attitude at the company.

Sadly there are more chances that Blizzard will become more like SOE with the time than SOE becoming like Blizzard.

As much as I agree with the Utnayan bashing in Vanguard threads, it's completely baseless over here. His points are valid and he only keeps responding because some of you rabid haters can't help but quote him everytime he answers, no matter how right he might be.
