| WoW's Warden Ok, so maybe I'm a little late in knowing this, but apparently there's a program out there called The Governor that records what the Warden does on your computer. As you probably know, the Warden is an "anti-cheating utility" installed by Blizzard that supposedly inspects your computer for hacks and cheats while playing World of Warcraft. Since the author of The Governor warns that there MAY be a possibility of being banned for using it (because it's a 3rd party program), what I want to know is if anyone is using it and got slapped by Blizzard. The reason I ask is not because I'm a hacker. It's because I use the same computer (at home) for work and WoW and I don't think what I do on it would be appreciated by my boss if for any reason the programs my work installed on it, found out the files were being read by something else. It's sensitive information they aren't going to believe a game company read. Neither do I feel like explaining it happened while killing a horde shaman on my paladin or priest in the BG's. For the past year I get to work from home and I don't want to lose that, so I'd like to know what this Warden is sending back. So if anyone knows anything about using The Governor, particularly if they got banned for having it, I'd appreciate it. Thanks! Last edited by Kaylena; 09-01-2006 at 05:35 AM.. |

Are you more worried about losing your job or getting banned? Honestly, anyone who gets banned has it coming regardless. If people use the program you are suggesting, they should be able to tell you what files are scanned anyway, so you wouldn't need it. If your work information is installed on your computer and lacking file/program security, that's something they may want to look into. I've ran WoW knowing I have my work info. on my pc, then again - nothing can be opened without a password. Not to mention, I doubt they'd care to read about doctors and see how many are losers who use AOL and fancy the Caps Lock key. ![]() I wouldn't use it, regardless. If my work were that important, I'd look into an additional PC; one for gaming, one for work. I know, crazy idea.

| They will ban you for having the governor in the background as much as they will ban you for running minesweeper. It doesn't interfere with WoW itself Quote:
the best part is that his screenshot of warden's Activities can't be enlarged. Apparently what is shown wouldn't suit his aggressive stance towards Blizzard. Last edited by Quineloe; 09-01-2006 at 06:06 AM..

| I'm more worried about the job finding it on there since they can access my files, than I am Blizzard seeing it. I just wanted to know what Blizzard could see that my job would find and say something about. I have another PC upstairs. Just to be safe, that's probably the better idea. It was nice to be able to flip back and forth between waiting for reports, etc. and/or BG's, but it's not worth being questioned over and not worth being banned to find out what's being sent. Thanks. |

To the original poster, why the fuck are you worried about The Warden or this other program when you have WORLD OF WARCRAFT installed?! Wouldn't that be un-kosher for the work PC in the first place?

| warden scans after processes only. doesn't read what is in said process just converts the process to a hash? , compares the hash to a list of known hash's it has that are the hashes of hacks and cheats and then if it detects a match, flags that account. course i am just a user, hope i used the right word. the program doesn't care what a process IS, just if it's hash matches known hacks and my boss cannot install anything on my computer - keyloggers etc,,,cuz well...I am my boss for the work i do, sure i work for someone, but I am in the one that installs all the software and does most of the computer work(acad using land development desktop 06- i hate civil 3d pro with a passion(we have it but it doesn't do alot of the stuff i NEED it to do)(which is 95% of the business nowadays- hand drafting is a dying art-and takes too long, a set of plans that takes me a week to do, would take a hand draftsman about a month maybe 2 depending on the scope) |
