| When EQ1 looks better than its sequel I only look at EQ1 through the screenshots but I remember that a couple of expansions ago there were some locations with some great design and style, while EQ2 looked very, very bland (I think it was when EQ2 was launching DoF and EQ1 had an expansion with truly unique locations). I wonder if they moved over the artists because the latest screenshots I've seen from EQ1's new expansion looked much worse and uninspired. I doubt these are entirely new models for all the characters and NPCs, but maybe it's a test. It's a few years that they say they want to redo the models, then they said they were going to outsourcing them, and then not even that. Maybe it isn't the best graphic you've ever seen, but at least the one I pasted below seems to have a decent style. FOR SURE it looks better than what I see in EQ2. The skintone and face are good. The worst part are the hands and how they (do not) hold the weapons. The other screenshots are also quite bad. Very bad hairstyles and colors, worse modeling. But still more acceptable than EQ2. ![]() |

| Nice armor. /shrug But I think you really want to whine about your speccs. Not the state of graphics in EQ2. Here's 2 random images (as opposed to the "promotional" shots you chose) I just pulled out of the first thread I saw. And these are not even on the highest settings ... | I really think that this latest expansion is EQ1's one shot to prevent itself from a slow decay into death. They have a whole new race, new expansion zones for 1->70 which means they could totally revamp the entire levelling experience if they so chose. (ie make it fun and not a mind-numbing grind). Whether they want to go the wowification route or not I donno, but either way this is their one chance to demonstrate that their dev team is capable of producing quality content that can actaully bring players into the game. I really think this will make or break the game. If their "new" content is the same-old same-old bland zones with the generic unengaging quests and normal-for-expansion classic undercon mobs, then they've really let an opportunity go by. But as long as they keep the game as being "1: Boring grind to 70. 2: Grind 400 aa. 3: Grats, you can now start playing the actual game, apply to raidguild now.", then they're never going to get new players. The question though is if they can acutally pull it off. The pessimist in me says no, but I wouldn't mind being surprised. p.s. Oh yeah the graphics are kinda nice, and quite impressive for the engine, but I honestly don't think anyone thinks that alone can save the game. |

| Don't get me wrong, Im the first to agree that EQ2 needs better scaling from Extreme Performance to Extreme Graphics. They simply remove effect upon effect until you can play it. Unlike other games which leaves you thinking "this looks nice, even on low". It does also needs more ornate armor patterns. But this thread just seems like a General BS "I hate EQ2" so take that! There's really no comparing the two if you're talking graphics. |

| EQ2 has amazing graphics and some pretty awesome Animations, you just have to not have a PoS Computer. I run it on Balanced on my Desktop with a 6600GT and it looks pretty decent and runs OK in raids. But With my Laptops 7800GTX Go it Looks absolutely gorgeous in groups and raids since I play On Extreme Quality with a Few Tweaks (Namely Shadows off as they own everything bad). I'll get onto my Laptop and Post some Random Images I took on my Playable settings in a few. |

EQ2 is an absolutely incredible game. Having played EQ1 for 6 years and WoW for like 6 months (and accomplished everything there was to accomplish). I only picked up EQ2 about a year after original release and it's just incredible. The gameplay is sweet, there are a countless number of things you can do during off-raid hours. The models themselves might not be that great, the Soga models definately improved upon the originals but even those arn't spectacular. The equipment/weapons etc look good on the models however.
