Yes very nice thank you Brad. I didnt think the SS were bad at all but all SS are boring and some animation is always enjoyable.

Id love to see some on casting, and perhaps some grouping if its possible.

Hrm, the link works for me still. Hopefully Aradune does not mind. Vanguard Rangers Mirror of JerrithCombat1.avi. And yeah, my server seems to be bogged down lately. Oh well, if BradMcQuaid.com is not working at least give it a try.

Considering in WoW 90% of grey mobs you can one-shot, alot. =p

Next one, let's get some camera movement and music.

Very cool, either way.

Small nitpick; the "hit" sound effect sounds like someone punching, rather than a slash against an exoskeleton. Not a huge concern, but maybe a slashing noise when using a blade? And the "got hit" animation does look rather strange (like a jolt back then slight pause).

This video is incredible. AWESOME! I am soooooo impressed!!!! Man, I haven't seen a combat video like that in YEARS.

Is that the general consensus so far?

Well, it's a guy killing a bug in a dead landscape that has pretty much EQ1 quality (Walls of Slaughter for example). I hope that people see why I like to compare the combat to DAoC. If you played a rogue there, you know what I am talking about.

Btw, the reason you don't see any wildlife in the distance is that it only pops up when you get in close range. While they claim that it is all populated by hand, you have the feeling of auto-spawns every 30m. So in order to reach those structures at the hill you have to kill about 7-8 yardtrash mobs, otherwise you get a huge train on your ass.

No. Most of the people offered constructive criticism while also giving their opinion on why they liked the video.

Only it's not really that close to EQ1 quality at all...right.

So you are saying the clipping plane of the mobs means it is all auto-generated? No, wait, you're saying timed-spawns mean non-handmade content? Wait, wait, you're saying because of timed mob spawns, the near clip on mobs means there is not handmade content? WTF ARE you saying?

I am saying that this part of the game plays like SWG. You cannot walk in an open area without getting jumped by stuff that is always popping up right in your way, which means that you cannot skip it by chosing a different path. In SWG it is computer generated content to keep you busy (an algorithm), in Vanguard they claim it is not, but it feels and plays exactly the same. Does that explain it?

The trains you generate by just trying to outrun the yardtrash are insane. There were reports from lvl 25 sorcs getting killed by a selfmade train of lvl 5-6 mobs. It's simply chain aggro where everything joins in on the fun. Just think of running in Crushbone from DVinn to zone, with the only difference that there is no zone (seamless...) and that the grey shit can stick snare on you.

Ok, I've got people waiting for me so ill make this fast.

1) The PC does not get in a battle stance until the mob arrives at his feet and he makes the first swing. The PC should get prepared for the incoming attack.

2) 31,30,29,28...4 Whats with the range finder, thats a lil over the top in my opinion, unless thats just in for development purposes. Also how is he fighting the mob from 4meters away? I think its a lil off.

3) Where does that second dustwalker come from? He just kinda clips into the scene, or is that a respawn?

Besides that looks great, give the NPC on the right a few animations and it will look good.

Yes.
I would wonder how in the world you could have such advanced knowledge of their spawning system by watching a :39 video.

I see no mobs randomly spawning out of the blue. I do see one bug that comes in and out of view (most likely because of clipping), but I see nothing else that supports your theory.

EDIT: also there is another older video that shows mobs from quite a distance away. Not sure if that is still the way things are, but if so, it would mean you can find paths to avoid them and not have to deal with crap spawning right in front of you 24/7.

Yeah I wasn't going to say anything about this, but lose the range-finder.

Are you aware that there are people who are actually playing the Beta? There are also some who did at one point...

We are actually talking about the weirdest part of the game. You get to a wide open area that looks completely lifeless, dead and empty, but every 30m something will pop up in your path. After a while you notice that this works like a 30x30 mesh. The whole world is FULL of yardtrash, you simply don't see it 31m away.

I think Vhex hit the nail on the head when it comes to the fun in WoWs combat system.
Instants are awesome. It makes the game fast paced and exciting. Having everything needing to be channeled is unfun.

Free it up, let people move around. It looks better, its more fun, and it makes gameplay a blast. As a Wizard in EQ and a Mage in WoW, I can say playing a mage is 10x more fun, even when soloing, in WoW.

What will make Vanguard imo is how much freedom they allow players. If people are forced to stand still like statues, Vanguard will get very boring very fast in the early stages. Give casters a few insta casts, lets rangers shoot on the move, dont make melee characters channel their attacks. That game will win.

Gotcha, and in that case I would have to say those people would know alot more than I do. But, since I am unable to see this for myself, I have to go with what I see.

I see a bug moving in and out of a, hopefully customizable, clipping plane.

a) You clearly haven't played the game in quite some time (especially in Qalia).
b) You fail to understand that the game improves/evolves over time, including, but not limited to, overworld mob placement/density. I know everyone seems to think the game is stagnant in Beta, for whatever reason, but things do actually change. Imagine that.

I can't wait to see what outdated information people complain about, that they saw in Beta 2, when the game is about to release.

Disclaimer:
... at least that's what my friend in Beta told me.
