Anyone else when he killed the mob the exp bar either didn't move or moved so slightly it was nearly unnoticeable? Jait don't say "the critics have been silenced" its taken this long to get a 20 second clip of combat. Talk to anyone playing and I bet they'll tell you they've never had everything look so smoothly before. My guess is after video and video of combat they got one that loss minimal fps while in a newly textured area and they were like EUREKA!

That's acutally a non-default setting I'm using that makes the tooltips pop up close to what I'm mousing over. In the default UI right now, the tooltips all pop up in a single location on the screen, off in the lower right (where I put my chat box). There is also an option to make then not display at all unless you're holding alt.

It looked pretty solid to me for a beta 3 video. Read some fo the styles he did..looks like later on there are gonna be some impressive damage numbers thrown up there cause he's only 18 and already throwing up almost 300 damage on what appears to be a base attack style. One of those styles says it does 285% damage and he is doing over 100 per attack atm so that's almost 400 points possible damage on one attack at 18...that's awesome. Also I assume he's a bard since he is "playing" a song. If a damn pansy bard can do that much damage I can't wait to see what a warrior can dish out.

The chain icon that came up was very unobtrusive which I really liked.

EDIT

Ah yeah going back through it in slow mo I see he has a BRD only hand drum so my assumption on bard was right. Damn bards seem to be a very beefy class in this game. :-)

Yeah I figured.

One other thing I noticed though. Why the damage after mob is dead? I remember this causing issues. Is that a fluke or does the death text(You have slain X.) always come before the final blow is dealt?

Love the smoke, and the UI looks very good. Pretty good "physical" feeling on the character and animation.

Don't be shy, give us some more

Please don't ever release a screen shot again. Jerrith's video looks better paused than any screenshot so far.

That's MUCH better than the screenshots. It's funny actually I was watching the video and I thought to myself "OMG, it's Arcanum in 3D", just the visual style is so similar (one I happen to be partial to).

The animations are average, not as bad as some posts have been suggesting. Could they be better? Yeah sure but I wouldn't gouge my eyes out if I had to look at it the way it is.

The textures look much better live than in the SS. The UI is great.

My main "Ummmmm" was just the speed of combat, I guess this is a matter of preference and I'm not the one with my hands on the keyboard but it just seemed very slow. I guess I just like WoW's combat speed level where there's lots happening and lots to do every moment. Maybe Jerrith is hammering away wildly at his keyboard behind the scenes but what ends up on screen is just sort of .... boring? .... bland & slow maybe? Its not that I want to "Dance all Day" like FPS Doug but nor do I want to fall asleep at my keyboard.

definitely enjoy this way more than any screenshot. Someone asked earlier but ill repeat it in case it got glanced over, but how do you tell the mob level to his level?

The game looks far better in motion. Would enjoy seeing more.

I fought a grey con NPC, and earned no experience. It wasn't really a tough fight, I think it actually ended up missing me more often than it hit. The point of the video was more to show off the animations.

It's a bug we need to fix. On a related note, the name of the NPC turning grey too early is already fixed.

While you can't see it in this movie, the smoke is actually being blown to the east, instead of rising straight up. It looks even better when you see it at an angle.

The color of the dots around the upper half of the directional indicator on the offensive target window. It's a grey con, so they don't really stand out much.

It is really hard to tell, but it looks lifeless to me. Combat looks bland. Maybe because the dude just stood there. Not sure if can even tell from a video, but I think so.

I can have the greatest looking game in front of me and get bored silly in 2 weeks if the combat has little to no interaction. I need combat in addition to some form of content and graphics.

I like the combat to be decently balanced in terms of risk. I don't want to have mobs that either destroy me or I destroy them. A good balance is where you can find even matches as well as those above and below. I want to have to use a little bit of guess work in skill.

Do I use this combo, X +Y, now to save me some down time? Do I have different alternatives to different types of creatures to allow me to narrowly kill them or not? Perhaps a form of silence, or disarm? A stun? Do I have to be careful of when I use it or not use it to make the combat a challenge?

Do I have this special ability Z that can help if I am in a tight jam if I use it correctly, perhaps when I get 2 mobs instead of one when I am soloing or duoing with a friend?

What type of skill do I perhaps have to use to mitigate damage? Some form of fear or silence, or snare, root, those type of things. Besides armor that is. If I mess up using this skill once am I doomed? Or do I potentially have 2 or 3 chances to use it to make up for my error.

Bland combat sucks.

As someone mentioned, I am also interested in small group combat and what the alternatives are much along the same lines as above.

I like the landscape. :P

I'll take criticism for my shots, but the bottom line is, and the reason I posted a video instead of waiting, is that games like Vanguard that use the latest in technology look a LOT better in motion than they do in a screenshot.

Pause the video, say after he's fired the bow and the mob is approaching and he's pretty much standing there. Now compare that still to the myriad of screenshots we've released. Boring, eh?

Video for a game like Vanguard, not screenshots, if I've learned *anything*, is where it's at.

Good thing I prefaced the video, stating this was one guy soloing a mob
