+1 Internets | Interesting Exploit bounty system [SL]. I don't know if you would label Second Life an mmorpg as it's not so much a game as a giant sandbox, but it functions like an mmo for the most part (only lacking a linear objective...or hell any objective placed in front of you really), and suffers from bugs and exploits exactly like other mmo's. Anyway, some one sent me a link to This Post. In a nutshell it's a bounty for being the first to report exploits. They're paying L$ 10,000 (that being the in game currency), which equals about $33.45 if you just sold it for US dollars (currency selling and buying is part of the game). Furthermore, one of their ballsy devs is apparently on standby, ready to smash exploits that threaten the economy even in the middle of the night. I thought this was an interesting take on exploit/bug fixing and an impressive measure taken by an mmo team to fix their game's bugs. I figured others may be interested in seeing this, and I'm interested in seeing how it plays out. I really do think that it'll turn up plenty of exploits since players will be incentive-ized quite heavily to report them. It may even help the mmo market clean up it's act with regard to bugs to see one taking care of shit (presuming the system works). Of course the game isn't at all competition for the same player base, so it most likely won't make a big difference. |

+38 Internets | I'm pretty sure this is exploiting http://spotzntaco.ytmnd.com/ anyway, taking such 'drastic' steps to squash exploiting in a game like this probably doesn't involve the orders of magnitude of work required to squash bugs in say WoW or something. More power to them if they're as serious as they are, but i'm not sure a larger more complex mmo can offer this kind of response. |

+25 Internets | Second Life does not interest me in the least, but you have to admit the freedom they gave to the player allowed for the most insane and almost poetic exploit ever made. A player programmed a self duplicating sphere of some sort and it spread through the game world like some sort of architectural virus and ultimately it crashed the servers. I guess you understand why I said "gave" in my first sentence.
