| It has pretty much no worthwhile endgame and it can get repetitive. That's the big problem. It's still a good game for what it's worth, just don't expect to play it non-stop for a few years. It's fun here and there. Double XP weekend was insane. Got a lv 10 brute to lv 25 without playing *THAT* much. Now I need to decide if I want to continue with the brute or the 27 MM. |

That said, I've been playing CoV casually for the last couple of months, and I've been having fun. I have 2 brutes (30 and 28) and love them. I just can't get into the other villain archtypes though, and believe me: I've tried. I'm not sure how much longer I'll keep playing, but I definately recommend CoH/V to people as a filler game for a few months when you are bored with your current MMO.

| i played coh from beta to issue 5, (last june/july) almost everyday, but just an hour or so a day. Most times i played with one of my friends and we would do 1 maybe 2 missions a night. i thought they lost direction many times at what they wanted heroes to be and nerfing a class into gimpdom wasn't a problem for them. anway, i thought the game was fun, the story arcs from 40-50 were great. pre-nerfed regen scrapper and ill controller we duoed every archvillian |

It's a great game as long as you play it very casually and aren't really interested in an "end-game."

+30 Internets | The powers are totally fun, but grouping seems to be mostly a big zerg from what I experienced so stuff like Dominator is mostly a waste. Shame too, because I would like to see how some of the powers would work in an MMO with true group interdependance dynamics. I played CoV some over Christmas when I wasn't playing anything else, and I ended up having the same problem as I did with CoH. It just gets too repetative for me with no real carrot other than new powers every once in a while then back to the grind. More (many, many more) interesting arch villian/hero missions would be a very simple way to improve this game dramatically IMO. |

+4 Internets | I feel bad for Stalkers and Dominators. To anyone about to give City of Villains a shot: If you want a character that is powerful solo and in groups at all levels and like micromanaging pets then make a Mastermind. If you want a character that is powerful solo and in groups at all levels and don't like pets then make a Brute. If you want a character that is an extremely powerful support character in groups then make a Corruptor. If you want a character that is comparatively gimp until about the mid 20s and then becomes a powerful soloer but remains undesirable for groups then make a Stalker. If you want a character that is comparatively gimp the majority of the time but has occasional moments of brilliance then make a Dominator. |

+38 Internets | My stalker was a bitch to level solo though. I'd blow my load on one mob, and then have to either blow my cooldowns, or scrap and get torn the fuck up in the process. Dominators are retarded in practice, decent conceuptually. They were supposed to be a control/dps hybrid. Except half of their dps powers are melee (wtf the class with the LOWEST hitpoints needs to go melee), and as an Ice/Ice dominator I never ever had any endurance. Masterminds made the game (pve anyway) completely a joke. The pet army as long as you had half a brain was nearly unstoppable. I've seen exp groups that rely on their mastermind pets more than brutes, because they're better at taking damage, and if they die... who cares? Brute for me was the only way to go though. It gets redundant fast, but then I can't really blame the Stalkers for this. They're more or less a one-trick pony. All they have is Assassin's Strike. But, this is also the reason why so many PvPers go for the Stalker. You can PvP with impunity. I've literally been in the PvP zones where every villain was a Stalker. Of course, it just makes things worse for the "squishy" archetypes in the game. It was bad enough when everyone targetted me before, but now it's being done where I usually can't see it coming, have no time to react, and can't retaliate.

Maybe we'll see a better superhero MMO with Marvel or DC. Unfortunately, my infant will be in kindergarten before we see these games. And since MSFT owned the rights to Marvel, but Sigil was supposed to be working on the game, how long will the Marvel MMO be limbo?

| Grouping is kind of a zerg, which was fairly boring for my MM but fun as hell for my brute who just jumps into large groups of people and beats the shit out of them. Easy grouping made the sudden difficulty jump in the respec trial jarring. Brutes aren't really "tanks" and the corrupter is like playing WoW where mages and priests are merged and warlocks and hunters don't exist. People play them as ranged DPS, not healers. This is kind of cool and fits the villian theme, but then you get to the fucking sniper tree that 1-shots everything aside of a brute, you have go to traditional tank-healer mode with people who haven't ever done it up to that point. You need the brute going first through the vines to "tank" while he gets considerable healing. I tried like 3 or 4 times on my MM, but the PUGs I was in just couldn't handle that shit. It's not like a poor or mediocre PUG is going to wipe alot and finally get it, the way the vines respawn make it so a poor-medium PUG doesn't get it period. Difficult mission for people to ungimp their characters is lame. Also, wtf is a stalker's role? Yeah, insta-gibbing bosses is cool and all, but if you don't take a substantial percentage of a mob's health away instantly, assassin's strike is just a huge gimmick. My friend I've been duo'ing with is a stalker. We fought the Hero Sea Witch and after his assassin's strike barely takes away any of her HP, he just acts a second inspiration tray for me while doing significantly less damage and having much worse resist/defense.
