ThunderFury, Sulfuron updates in TBC?

With the introduction of Naxxramas, and the pending release of The Burning Crusade, we're starting to see weapons that out DPS TF and Sulfuron Hammer.

It would be pretty awesome to see Blizzard release interval quests, perhaps at level 65 and 70 that would update one's legendary to something more level appropriate.....thoughts?

I'm going to go ahead and assume bigger, higher level, new legendaries instead of upgrades to old ones.

Terrible idea. I think most people who never got either of the quest item drops would prefer to just pretend they don't exist. The fact is where Thunderfury is concerned, it will always have that utility unless they introduce more slow procing weapons that are better than it (which I doubt will happen).

I'd much prefer the idiots who insist orange items need to be the top of the line stop bringing up ways to make awesome items even better than current content items.

Not to be semantic, but purple or orange doesn't matter. I would like to see more "EQ epic" style quests. Badass items don't have to drop from the last dungeon boss, maybe they're part of a long chain that rewards someone for truly "epic" accomplishments.

The weapons have no relevance in the tBC storyline and have no reason to be resurrected other than being orange.

True enough. Quel'Sarrar is an item that could be extended on and it would be reasonable, because its honestly very accessable to tons of people compared to Thunderfury, which is completely luck based to obtain.

I mentioned the orange thing because I've seen on Raids and Dungeons and the Warrior forums how terrible it is Sulfuras isn't as badass as it used to be (despite the fact its pretty god damn good even 3 raid zones later), and how Thunderfury, the biggest itemization screw up I've seen in years needs to get better, despite the fact no other item has a proc that good and likely never will, and the fact that its "legendary" means it has to be irreplaceable.

The deal with sulfuras is that you have to spec fury. It used to be inferior when it got out due to the fact fury sucked and as an MS weapon it lacked the sword/axe talent spec (even though prior to normalization when they change it's speed, the MS were getting really high).

Once you spec fury you get flurry, which overall does about the same dmg that axe spec or sword does or so, but give you way more rage to work with. It is by far the best 2-h weapon you can get before being able to kill Nefarian, which imo is where it should be. The proc add around 10 dps on it which compensate for less attack power on it.

I got Sulfuras in february and we are just about to be able to kill Nefarian, so even though you can argue that Ashkandi is slightly better overall, it's much harder to get. On the other hand once you kill Nef each week, Ashkandi is much more common then sulfuras is, but that's how it should be I think in term of progression.

TF on the other hand is kinda retarded since it still own all the BWL drop and as far as aggro is concerned certainly own all the Naxx drop. That doesn't even factor the slow and like Praet said in another thread, when you have boss like patchwerk that do somethingl ike 2.5k melee dps, a 20% slow that cost nothing is huge.

Items become outdated. Artifacts in vanilla EQ were quickly overshadowed by later weapons, such as the BB hammer.

Besides, I don't honestly think people would be keen on being forced to do MC at 70 just to get some rare drops off the bosses.

Unique item, unique effect.

In EQ I had a backpack full of shit I still lugged around for clicks and procs.

heh, this reminds me of the "epic 2.0" craze that was flying around the eq boards in PoP. (or atleast I think it was PoP.)

One would think that after a certain number of raids in a certain zone that certain rare items would have a higher drop-rate for that raid group until that item is seen, resetting the drop rate to the norm.

On-topic, Legendaries will never gain free buffs. Why should a guild raiding MC get a weapon that rivals level 70 weapons from TBC? It doesn't make sense. Sure, you might think weapons from elemental demi-gods should be at the top all the time, but who's to say the Lieutenant of the Lich King wouldn't have a more powerful relic?
