| do not be silly anymore Do you really still need to protect Wow’s place in the market? Will it make me a liberal or a homosexual to consider looking at anything else? Is it necessary to swear allegiance to Wow and nothing else? The uber brand loyalty made a little sense before Wow conquered the market. What’s the point now? Go away. It’s just a new game. Do not fear it. lol If you are not hopping for the best, wtf? Why? |

+8 Internets | I'll agree with the general sentiment that some of the shots look decent, yet many are very bland. I also agree that it look very DAOC-ish. On a side note, those Lineage Chaotic Chronicle linked above shots are pretty damn amazing. The environments specifically, not even the anime-style models, which are impressive as well. US game companies need to send their art crew over to Korea for a seminar on texturing, lighting, proportion + scale, and most importantly: how to not use right angles and symmetry all the time. Symmetric rooms + right angles = totally uninteresting environs. |

when it comes to Brad and his brand of religion towards MMO's, I believe he is the driving force between haters and fanboys. He leaves little room for anything but "Vanguard is for you" or "maybe this isnt the game for you." Since that is the extent of his "vision" he gets what he gives.

![]() Hibernia ![]() Albion ![]() Midgard On top of that the whole gameplay feels like a lot like DAoC PvE, especially if you compare the complexity and the depth of the content. As I have written before, a mixture of DAoC and SWG describes it best.

I dont keep up enough to know where these shots are all coming from thestra or not, but if they are all from thestra, yikes. 1 of 3 continents done and even suggesting an '06 release is pretty laughable. if it is released it will be rushed and crap, if its not it will be more like an summer '07 release if they rush there ass off compared to what they've done in the past 4 years. So 1 of 3 continants will be decent to play in? This is what MMO history tells me.

| Maybe there's a better way he could have worded that, but I get what he means. If life were an MMO, yes different areas would look very different, but it would still look like the same game and the same graphics engine. The Vanguard screenshots I've seen don't necessarily have a consistent artistic style, which is different from DEPICTING different styles of architecture, clothing, etc. More importantly to me, though, everything I've seen in WoW seems to placed really naturally (as far as I know it was done by hand). VG looks a lot like EQ2, EQ, and SWG in that the terrain and objects seem very randomly generated. If something looks like it was very carefully and deliberately designed, it will be placed in the middle of an area that looks like it was designed by TerrainBot2000. This results in a lack of visual continuity, lack of realism (which for me messes with immersion), and a very poor lack of scale. In all those games I just mentioned it is really hard to tell how big I am in relation to other stuff except in a few areas (The big ramp up to Highpass would be a notable exception in EQ). In WoW, though, I feel tiny all the time, which is really cool. The world feels huge, which for me makes it feel more real (since in real life I often look at places and think "fuck, that's farther than I want to walk," primarily because this is Texas and it's 300 degrees).

+14 Internets | He doesnt mean everything looks the same. He means the general art STYLE is present across the world. To put it in other terms, if WoW was a comic book, it would look like it was all done by the same artist. It's not like certain MMOs where it's like your comic book is broken up every few pages by some other guy drawing the panels. There's nothing that sticks out like a sore thumb and looks like it doesnt belong in the world as the result of an non-unified direction of design.
