| Thats not why desktop mics suck, its because you have to have speakers too, which causes gay echo for everyone else. I know I hate it when the few people in guild that use desktop mic/speaker combo talk on Vent. I use Sennheiser PC155 USB headset, had it for like 2 years and it owns. |

And You must have had a shitty roger wilco. When my rb6 clan was #1 we would have upwards of 30-40 people in it. Not everyone suffered through 56k back then. The secret was to host it on a T1 or greater. Also dont assume just because you held out on a 56k doesnt mean that others didnt have IDSN, DSL, or cable well ahead of you. MMO's are just behind the times in this technology. It is nothing new or innovative. Voice Chat was gimped in CS as well. It took them 4 or 5 revamps to make it function like it does now. Anyone remember when it was first patched into CS? You couldnt mute ANYONE and most people didnt know how to select PUSH TO TALK. You'd play your whole game with some dumb ass bitching to his monitor because you got a headshot on him.

Both PvP and raiding are choreographies. You improve execution through repetition and when things start to work the need to communicate decreases more and more till what you hear is mostly all about shit and giggles to cut the downtime. Voice chat is only useful for one thing: laziness. Just more immediate and direct. Quote:

You again surprise me with your wisdom on the subject. It is entirely possible to setup your mic so that your speakers are not in conflict. It simply takes an understanding of how sound transfer works within PA gear. Secondly, People who haven't learned the YIELD method of talking over VOIP are the problem. If you hear someone talking STFU. If you use it enough, you will get the hang of it. There will always be collision but that happens on the phone when 2 people try and talk. Conference calling anyone?

Actually you are the one propaganding the False Myth. Even in 3rd person your eyes cannot cover the entire battlefield. If you are fighting for your life (say for a node or flag running) then typing is not an option if you want to be efficient. Macros work but which takes more space? Now take into account your team is also fighting. Which is more effective, Jookdick get over here and heal my ass west side or.... typing it (takes longer) and hoping he isnt fighting an intense fight and reads it. Calling Immediate or Direct lazy is pure stupidity at its finest. It is efficient. Go tell your boss that you would rather take more time to do things with less direct control over them. Think you'd have a job? Dont bullshit us son. Sit down-Shut up and learn something. Voip is also a community builder. I find myself more apt to log in to bullshit on vent than cyber in tells. There are people I have been using voip and playing games with for almost 12 years. You get to know them pretty well over that time period. Are they the best of friends? Probably not but it's still pretty damn cool. How many enjoyed playing Pong 2 player on atari? Did you talk to the person you were playing or did you type with them? Voip simply brings people at a distance into your room to play video games. Just like the old times. Except now, each person can be in their own comfort zone with their own munchy stash and they dont have to share!!!!!!

We didn't have a shitty Roger Wilco, it was quite clear. Just that there wasn't enough interest in guild to have a server for 40 people, plus I don't think we payed anything for 8-man RW since someone could host it themselves. Like the average person is going to throw down the money for a T1 line to host RW back in those days. We didn't "hold out" on 56k either, I'd say 90% of people playing EQ in 99 didnt have a choice, ISDN was expensive and it was something to brag about if your city was getting DSL. I got DSL/cable as soon as it was available for reasonable price. I think you assume to much, not me. And you sound like a know-it-all douchebag with your last 4 posts.
