EVE nerfing macroers

Copied because link requires a player account.

"Concervationists have called for a day of mourning today. Strip mining operations have depleted numerous Ice Fields in high-traffic, high-security Empire regions. Initial reports state these resources will not replenish, and other Ice Fields are in danger of the same fate.

"Today is a very sad day, knowing that these once vast stretches of natural ice and beauty are forever gone," said Marcalin Chronet, a noted champion of resource and new Capsuleer protection rights. "How many more fields will suffer the same fate in order to pad the wallets of companies who automate the strip mining process for obscene profits? It's a shame that these large scale, automated mining ops went through these crucial areas and cleaned them out. Some new pod pilots are going to wonder where they can go to turn a couple ISK for expenses tonight."

Others spoke out against these mining conglomerates. Said Aidan Black, CEO of Serenity Search, Salvage and Storage, "Hopefully, this loss of natural resources will have an impact on how these operations run. Maybe now, they will have to go into less-secure areas where they have to compete with Capsuleers who are at the controls of their mining AND weapon systems. Time will tell."

Attempts were made to contact a number of strip mining conglomerate officers and CEOs. None could be reached for comment. "

i like how CCP's attitude is so lax, they use role-playing text to announce nerfs. those guys rock.

I agree. Using terms such as this, and being well done, is extremely rare. The CMs on the WoW forums used to try to make their posts sound in character, but alas, they're dealing with the mental midgets whom only care about having a "1st!!!" on any post that has any sort of blue colored text in it.

Call me crazy, but something like the OP here wouldn't make me mind (as much) as long as they were allowing some sort of story forwarding in the game. I can't say that I've played EVE, but these guys know how to make even a non-subscriber think "I wonder what they're really talking about. Maybe I'll give it a go..."

I don't doubt they actually did try to contact those CEO's, but didn't get a good response before the deadline of the press release. Community corps and players are in the official canon news and lore all the time.

I also love the system of the interstellar correspondents who make news updates based on the players actions and also make interviews with alliance leaders and all that stuff =)

Sigh, explaining a joke always ruins it.

If you try to speak to macroers, you'll either (rarely) get Chinese/Russian answers, or (more commonly) ignored completely as they're not actually at the keyboard most of the time. Hence the 'None could be reached for comment' line.

I'm starting to like em in WoW.

They run around in set paths, and just as the bot is about to engage a mob, moonfire tag it and they kill it for me. Do my bidding, puppet!

Well at least I can appreciate the humor now. If you hadn't explained it, a lot of people wouldn't have known what exactly this was about and assumed something similar to what I did

I just thought it meant they couldn't be reached for comment. My dry-humor radar is kind of wonky today.

Even better: it's not the end of high-sec ice mining, so you're not going to see prices go up. They're just pulling the ice fields from heavily trafficed hub systems like Jita.

They honestly serve a very useful purpose in the economy - cheap low-ends like trit and pyerite make battleship construction viable, and the cheap isotopes makes it a lot simpler to run POSes(or run non-regional racial POSes). But goddamn if they aren't annoying, especially when the bot locks your can.

I used to do that leveling up...I'd pull mobs to a bot farmer then he'd kill it for me while I killed another. 2 mobs in one! Eventually some guy would finally check the PC then say "no" or some of his native language ;P

Actually I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't. CCP is generally of the attitude that if players are abusing a mechanic, its the mechanic that needs to be tweaked, not the players banned.

Plus, they take much more pragmatic views towards abuses in general, and they're not in this crazyland that Blizzard is in where they think you can solve chinese farming problems by banning the farmers every so often and completely ignoring the fact that they have new chars ready before you've even finished banning.
