| MMORPG's in the new era of gaming... I got to thinking the other day about what I would like to see the next stage of MMORPG's evolve into...and starting thinking that maybe some radical directions regarding content might be the future. For instance, what if MMO's integrated sports into the in game communitites that crossed varying kingdoms, like Games Workshops' Blood Bowl. A cross of PvP and Football. Maybe using an active referee system with scoring to encorouge different aspects of play. Players could apply to join Leagues that battle to a super bowl like event with substantial in game prizes like unique gear and/or a purse..and by unique gear, Im referring to things like everquest used to do at GM events with gear only attainable at the event, the key being the gear would have to be designed to be something desirable....or specific titles. I think MMORPG's of the future need to incorporate new ways to tie players in. Lets face it...for most MMO players, its about plus dick size in regards to Honor, Gear, Guilds..whatever, and what better way than to create more opportunities for players to show their iPeen off than to create more competitive opportunities. Daoc had a great idea with Darkness Falls, a dungeon whose access was determined by PvP and frontier keep status. Mythics whole RvR concept was a brilliant theory that had implementation issues, but to me struck a cord that should be explored to the fullest. The whole concept of three realms at war with one another gave the game a great element, one that was not restricted to an instanced area. I was also thinking about dungoens that had a focal goal, liek a BG where two teams log in, one from horde and another from alliance, and once all members were present, both teams scramble to complete the dungeon from two seperate starting points, with the boss at the end being the ultimate goal. They share the same instance and pvp is enabled with strategic cross over points for staged ambushes or battles. Just tossing some ideas out there.... |

| I think a cool MMORPG would be one that is sort of like a "choose your own adventure" book. The story of the world would depend on the actions of the players. For every event the players could affect there would be multiple outcomes that branch off in various ways. This could affect what kind of content is opened, what classes are unlocked, what loot is available etc. to give it replay value. (when the story is finished, simply playing through another story and experiencing new content, new loot, new mobs etc.) On a server like this, named mobs could be killed only once, quests that "cleanse" an area/lake of disease would cause permanent change, etc. It would obviously be a huge undertaking but I don't think MMORPG's will grab me again until they become something truly dynamic.

(successful river crossings per attempt) 5 minutes on Google could have told you that.

+20 Internets | Yes, MMORPGs need more events like EQ's Best of the Best tournament and the Test of Tactics. ESPECIALLY tournaments where the best player/group of each server advances to a round where people from all servers fight for the top spot. And someone (a GM, I suppose) should record those x-server fights and make them available on the game site - much like some of the BotB videos that were made. Man, I loved those events, too bad there were just too many people at max level and not enough GMs to continue doing them ![]() |

I think they originally wanted to do that since the guards weren't invincible at first, then they PvE pussied out. The 'dreds were not what I wanted. | |
