Inifinity: The Quest For Earth

http://www.fl-tw.com/Infinity/infinity_development.php

from what i can read its basically a copy of EVE with few more features like planet landing or the ability to hire NPC to controll your ships and hunt with you

graphically its amazing (check this video) but other than that, if EVE introduce the same features they will be almost twin games

anyone got more infos?

EDIT - hmm, im reading the FAQ. this sounds intresting:

Quote:
What will the combat look like ? Real-time, action based ? Point and click ? Turn based ?
Combats will be purely real-time, action based, much like in a flight simulator or a first-person shooter. You will be in full control of your ship.
Wing Commander online?

An engine that can run an entire Galaxy seamlessly? I'll believe it when I see it running on my own computer.

I wonder who's backing them.

Development
How many developers are working on the game ?

I am currently the only programmer (Flavien Brebion), but there are many people helping in the other areas like 3D modeling (Shawn Sullivan, JoeB), 2D art/texturing (Kevin Haelterman, Andreas Österman), music (Oskar Törnros), storywriting (Russell Morahan) and more who expressed their interest and want to contribute. In addition, i might hire other developers/artists on a contract basis to add content to the game.
No.

In the worst case scenario this guy will still have one heck of a portfolio item with this game.

lol so the guy figured out how to use some open source software

http://www.shatters.net/celestia/index.html

Quote:
Unlike most planetarium software, Celestia doesn't confine you to the surface of the Earth. You can travel throughout the solar system, to any of over 100,000 stars, or even beyond the galaxy.

All movement in Celestia is seamless; the exponential zoom feature lets you explore space across a huge range of scales, from galaxy clusters down to spacecraft only a few meters across. A 'point-and-goto' interface makes it simple to navigate through the universe to the object you want to visit.

Celestia is expandable. Celestia comes with a large catalog of stars, galaxies, planets, moons, asteroids, comets, and spacecraft. If that's not enough, you can download dozens of easy to install add-ons with more objects.
And in the last 6 months the only thing new he has produced is some extra shading on a space station...

Ah yeah I seemed to recall this coming up and that the galaxy stuff was all generated from some artsy program.

The landscape looks like it's created from the Terragen program, which is something I used to use a while back for planet creation... it's free too. As for the planets, planets are really easy to create in a 3D program (3DS,C4D,etc).. it's just a sphere that's textured with a cloud/weather overlay.

Still, if he can make it work then more power to him.

Oops, guess this guy's out to prove y'all wrong:

Ingame combat with some kinda ship fitting UI in the middle:

The 'LOLSPACESTATION' test thrown into seamless transitions between surface, orbital and deep space environments: (for THIS feature alone, CCP should pay attention :P )

Their Official Trailer isn't embeddable by request, but it's supposed to be ingame engine footage. Frankly it looks like great fun. It also doesn't look like it's made by one guy (which was a misunderstanding I think).

Word is they're in some kind of private beta now, Infinity: The Quest for Earth

Looking that smooth and polished that early into theoretical beta? I dont know whats funnier. That he expects you to believe the game is already that done, or that you sit there and eat his turds like its truth.
