You can never have too many alchemists/herbalists.

You can never have enough herb gathering members. It's also good to have a wide variety of people able to do the same task. Our main alchemist recently retired (we pooled him for ZG rep and whatnot), but fortunately we had a few others with almost all the same recipes. While in World of Theorycraft, having a shitton of engineers might be leetsauce for thorium grenade or allah-akbar sappers, in the real world you'd be fucking yourself over for having all your eggs in one basket.

Alchemy is still the king of raiding. It's practically REQUIRED for raiding. No other tradeskill can really claim that. Enchanting would probably come in 2nd.

And yet if you have even one person that has mastered either of those professions, you do not get as much (or any) benefit out of subsequent characters that have them. That's the bottom line here. Sure you might want to build up a few so that if one retires/quits, you have more ready to go, but be honest about it. There's no reason to say "OK GUYS, LET'S ALL SWITCH TO HERBALISM/ALCHEMY RIGHT NOW! MAKE YOUR OWN POTIONS WOO!"

No one is arguing the utility of any of the professions, but rather the stackability. Engineering is king in that department, by MILES.

You're all retarded. You need to get your head out of your selfish soloing ass and think this through properly.

This is about "guild". Each member gets 2 professions. We're talking a minimum of 40 guild members here. That means after engineering you still have 40 profession slots to throw around. Based on some of the responses I get the feeling that some of you morons would prefer 40 members with alchemy. Right. Who's going to do herbalism then? Oh, you're implying that anyone who is an alchemist MUST be a herbalist too? Yea. You missed the black lotus memo some patches back. Herbalism can be run on alts.

As was said earlier in the thread: Engineering adds abilities that you didn't have before. All the other professions have their useful products as tradable items. And no, shit like the Robe of the Archmage isn't actually useful for a proper raiding guild.

Don't forget how useful Goblin rocket helmet is for PVP. In PVP I'd argue it's the best armor item in the game, haha.

Grenades are still the shit in pvp if you're good. I went through like 20 the last time my guild went up against a preform.

Some days I kind of wonder if they're going to nerf some of the Engineering explosives to 5 target limit.

Wouldn't surprise me.

I'm honestly surprised Iron Grenades haven't been nerfed yet, they're so overpowered. Kinda like how bandaging on the run was at release.
