I guess I'll have to just say goodbye to the EQ-like community that I once knew. I remember when I'd carefully phrase my sentences in /ooc so that I didn't sound like a profane bitch...and I remember seeing the word 'fuck' like maybe 3 times EVER in /ooc. (Now guild/raid chat, that's a different story!)

People tend to resort to using profanities when they can't come up with the proper vocabulary to express how they really feel. What your are experiencing are the effects of the 'dumbing-down' of american kids. Blame the educational system.

Lol, I remember bieng able to say some pretty off the wall and offensive/racist things in ooc/shout, yet in WoW ive been suspended twice over trivial comments.

Its probably because I played on Legends/Stormhammer....we didn't have much of that shit going on.

This isn't necessarily directed at you, but I find it hilarious that people bemoan the lack of an EQ-like community or how WoW is so different from EQ in terms of community and how people got along, and yet pine away for the guy who was pretty fucking good at taking pictures of Richard Simmons and drawing cocks in MS Paint to describe certain aspects of EQ. That said, I was also pretty careful about how I talked /ooc and in parties, but that's partially because I was in a stupid guild which had very strict rules about foul language (I was a newb, stfu).

I think it has more to do with the fact that the GMs in WoW are pretty much fucking useless whereas in EQ, GMs tended to respond a little faster and had more latitude in the types of punishment they could dole out.

People know that they can get away with acting like an assclown because the chances of them getting busted for it are pretty much nil.

EDIT: Oh, and agree on the Cuppycake > Wizarddeath thing. The latter sounds like a Harry Potter fan fiction character.

I'm probably one of the more vulgar and potty-mouted people I know. However, I get it all done without using lame ass nigger/kike/etc jokes. The only thing offensive about jokes and insults like that are that they are offensive in the "I'm not very witty or funny" sense. I mean, come up with something that at least makes you laugh because you know that shit was on point.

I agree. The internet is a bastion of mediocrity. That's putting it nicely.

Right. I wasn't attributing the immaturity of WoW's community to the age of the players nor their intellectual capacity...what I mean is that comparatively speaking to the server I played EQ1 on, the lack of GM support has caused people to be completely unmindful of the consequences of their actions or words. But then again..my EQ experience is based on the Legends server, where we had a GM solve our issues within 10 min of petitioning.

GMs in both games are equally useless except for fucking shit up when they don't need to be. Last time EQ had good GMs were the few months right after release when Everyone Knew Your Name(tm).
