| It's not that most of the people saying those things are inbred, mongoloid "Deliverance-ites." Many of them are perhaps decent people, from good families in upscale neighborhoods. It all goes back to the same thing: When people are on the internet, they feel okay with calling people kikes, niggers, faggots, insert insult here. "No one can see my face or who I really am, so I'm free to go crazy nutso!" That's not to say they shouldn't be accountable. I think "insert gaming company here" could easily monitor this situation by having keywords, like racial epithets, set off an alarm where the entire conversation and surrounding conversations are recorded, and set aside in a special file where a GM can review it and ban accounts when needed. As far as WoW goes, when I briefly played on the test server a long time ago, there was nothing BUT people scroll-spamming racial insults without a GM in sight. | I've noticed it heavily since Dave Chapelle went nation wide. Before then only the real racist would use those words. Now everyone and their mothers are using it. WoW just seems to have all wanna-be's. Most want to play cool in vent and in game and spit those words out b/c they know no one can do them anything. But I guess they are really expressing their true feelings. One of the main reason I left my old guild and eventually left WoW. |

+2 Internets | If anyone is still offended by the use of the word "gay", they are missing the big picture, imo. If I say "stop being so gay" or "you're such a faggot", I am not associating those insults with homosexuality at all, it's evolved into a sort of general insult that people aren't justified becoming angry about because it has lost all meaning. If I were to say "you are a homosexual", then I feel that alone has the direct meaning of... you are a homosexual. You can call me ignorant or whatever, but I live in one of the gayest cities on the east coast and probably have more gay friends/relatives than whosoever calls me out, so whatever. However, and maybe this is hypocritical, I never use racism and feel it is a lot more offensive. |

| Is someone swearing in a general channel? -Please page a CSR and we will ban them even though there's an /ignore command, /badword filter, and an age restriction on the side of the box. Is someone standing in the fire in ironforge creating offensive noise? -Please page a CSR and we will warn/ban the individuals involved. Is someone interupting your group's roleplaying on a rp server? -Please page a CSR so we can ban them. Got ninja looted? -Page a CSR/ban/etc Offensive character name? -Page a CSR Getting corpse camped in a game where it's impossible? -Page a CSR Someone beat you to a node? -Page a CSR and report them as a farmer. I figure in 10-20 years there's going to be an ingame command that lets you report other players directly to the government for harassing a minor, racial discrimination, being a meany etc. Maybee it could be a new profit model where your credit card gets charged every time someone files a valid complaint against you? |

| I think it's to do with the lack of a real community. First EQ server I was on, if someone in Sebilis ninja'd Trak I knew about it in HS an hour later. If someone trained a raid with Gore, everyone knew about it and those involved. Hell, people are still pissed at Vabtoo for using a zonehack and getting banned, everyone who played on BB will remember that probobly forever. Now the difference in WoW comes to grouping. In EQ you needed a group if you wanted those nice drops, or a shot at a hiero cloak to sell (btw that item was great). You were usually gonna be in this same group for like four or five hours, so you didn't want some mouthy retard - and everyone knew that, so people were more uhh restrained. I mean you did have the people on someone elses account spamming "NIGGER NIGGER NIGGER NIGGER" trying to get them banned, and it was shocking. Not because of the content, we all know the word and what it means - it was shocking cause it was barely shouted. Fast forward to WoW, where I can fill my ignore list within three days of starting on a new server. I can think of one guild in particular who tries really hard to do the Triton/LoS "funneh upd8s!" crap by showing quotes from guild chat. Every single one of the quotes is like "fuck that gay nigger lol" or similar. In short. Reputation in EQ = your meal ticket Reputation in WoW = some epic dagger, a ring and a mace |
