Based on that rule pretty much nothing is innovative any more because somewhere some game has it. Hell, Dark and Light had flying mounts. Guess neither WoW nor Vanguard is innovative now. Hell, I just think AO has flying mounts as well.

Sounds like character spec'ng or how in EQ2 you chose the final class at a certain level. Hardly amazing.
Except your still the same class. I really don't see how you can compare the two.
But really, if you boil everything down to its most basic form, there is very little differenciation between things. Spells and melee attacks, same thing except spells tend to have a delay and a particle effect. Mounts and flying mounts, same thing except one has more control.

What makes a game innovative is how they use already existing ideas to create something new. Half Life really wasn't that different from previous games. There were games before that focused on story, the guns were pretty basic, multiplayer had been done before. It was still an innovative game though, because, when you put all those systems together, it didn't play like anything I played before.

No, there were. I would say the ones I mostly used were in Lake Rathe too. I remember when everyone thought there was still a big monster in the Lake(which I believe was removed during beta), we used to ride those lame boats thinking we were safe. If we only knew that EQ was so crappy, fish would chase you onto land anyway, we would have just swamp.

And I'd just like to say screening of player created content already occurs at the community level in many games. Already in RTS's and FPS's, the community plays on the popular maps that are quality, and leaves Little Timmys "THIS IS MY FIRST DEATHMATCH ENJOY LOL" maps by the wayside quickly.

How good that screening is depends on the community.

Warcraft III, for example... Well, let's just say that aside from DoTA (which I agree with), the most popular maps seem to range from juvenile humor to copyright violation.

Hero's Journey is still around? Hasn't it been in development for, like, ten years now?

Regardless, if they manage anything close to what they claim, it'll certainly be a breath of fresh air compared to existing MMOs. But we all know what happened to Horizons...

I really don't get people's obsession with Conan. Besides looking fucking hideous, it's just a single player action RPG with a multiplayer part once you beat it. Really, it's just another Diablo.

I thought the game has like 80 levels and the first 20 are single player? If so since when do you "beat" a game when you are 1/4 of the way leveled. With the way leveling curves work one quarter of the lvls is ually about 2% of the game.

I also read "could have changed" that the single player part would be free and you would not pay until you hit lvl 20 and joined the MMO game

Anarchy Online had flying mounts first - the Yalmaha. Built into the game at release, and minus combat, they had everything you wanted in flight capable vehicles. Total 3D movement, serious speed buff, hovering, and they looked pretty cool.

The WoW/EQ2 griffon system is nothing more than an elaborate teleport system. So if Vanguard or any other game wants to say they have even 2nd Gen flying mounts, they better have all of AO's Yalm capabilities, and include better flight graphics and combat abilities, else it is just a griffon wrapper over the Yalmaha for originality's sake.

Beheadings are merely a gimmick that will stop being fun after a couple of hours.
