I think we could see a minipatch to introduce BC

I imagine they will start to 'pre-load' some of the BC stuff in the next few patches, if they haven't already. People who do NOT buy BC, will still need all the new character models, item models, textures, azeroth world geometry, etc...

That would make it an awesome sized patch.

I am pretty sure that nifty blizzard downloader that runs in the background of the game is doing just that ~

They already are putting some BC content in patches. Specifically I know 1.11 is coming with a few unskinned BC monster models.

You mean, the thing that I click on "Maintain blocking" when I exit from the WoW client?

Yeah, cause you know, permanent test servers were awesome for testing endgame content in EQ. No exploits got conveniently ignored there either, since people could actually profit from them.

*shrug* if you have the bandwidth and all the ports unbocked, it's not a nuisance. But if you dont', torrents make a _lot_ of connections. It should defiantely be an easy to enable option, disabled by default.

I dare say it worked a lot better than what we have now, PLUS it also tests non-new instances because it is on the test raid guilds farming schedule, so a lot of shit that went in with previous patches completly unnoticed will at least be found out before it hits live realms. Besides I kinda doubt that exploits would remain unnoticed with 10 raid guilds on 5 test servers tackling the new instance.

The thread I linked had people who had all the right ports open, plenty of bandwidth and the downloader was still not working.

I can confirm this. I can download regular patches just fine, but the background downloader doesn't work. Unless the ports are different, there's no reason it shouldn't work - that and a bug in the software that seems to basically turns it in a TCP connection blasting program. I haven't bothered capturing the traffic and check the ports because I don't give a fuck, but it should be interresting.

Also, when you have a firewall, the TCP requests from inside the LAN to the outside (WAN) open the correct TCP port(s) temporarily (for the duration of the connection). The problem is when the outgoing TCP port is different from the incoming TCP port. Or if you have a crappy firewall.
