Quote:
There's never been a better time to invite new allies to join your guild, as we've just launched the Recruit-A-Friend program. Just log in to the account-management section and click the "Recruit-A-Friend" button or go directly to this page to start sending free 10-Day trial keys to your friends. Rest assured that your valiant efforts will be rewarded: for every one of your friends who converts to a full subscription and pays for a month of game time, you will receive 30 days of free game time credited to your account!
My god...

So will the rang rang farmers be able to piggy back a shit load of accounts now?

I can't tell which game this is offhand. Probably WoW because it's popular and the 10 day trial is similar to what they already do when you buy the game?

Pretty sure you can't trade or use mailboxes on a trial account

You can't even trade things on a trial account. You can only get to level 20 as well. You also can't use chat channels other than the default ones I believe. It can be fun running 10-19 WSG though.

Vivendi Games Earnings Up 109%
World of Warcraft remains leading revenue driver for games division.
by Wade Steel

May 17, 2006 - In what has become a standard disclosure, Vivendi Games reported today that its earnings from operations for the first fiscal quarter increased by 109% over the same period last year to about $30 million largely due to the strength of its wildly-successful World of Warcraft MMORPG.

According to the company, the "dramatic" improvement in revenue growth was fueled by "an increased proportion relating to the higher margin of World of Warcraft business." Interestingly, in the same report, Vivendi states that the earnings figures include increased development costs incurred by Blizzard, WoW's developer. The report did not specify if these costs were related to the upcoming WoW expansion The Burning Crusade or some other unannounced project.
pretty much owned the thread.

It wouldn't shock me to hear that WoW's subscription numbers in the US were flat or falling. The more casual people are less 'sticky' than the hardcore gamers and WoW has lots of them. The numbers will be back up into the stratosphere when tBC launches. Besides, Blizzard could lose 9/10 of it's customer base in a fire and they'd still be far from insolvent.

Based on the number of people on old servers (like mine) it's hard to believe subscription numbers are going down. We have true newbies on their first character just now getting to 60. There's been some turnover sure but it doesn't "feel" like population is going down. Thats hardly a scientific analysis though.
