Has he made a single good game since leaving id?

Yeah, but Raph Koster made UO, SWG, and ummm, ummm. Well nevermind.

WTB 2 established franchises to attach my name to.

Yes, although his focus hasn't been on engines and super graphics (it never was at id either). Go play Hyperspace Delivery Boy and tell me he doesn't know how to create fantastic gameplay.

And really, Carmack and id haven't done much since he left. Their games may have sold well, having the franchise name and all, but the gameplay was flat and stale. UT, Half-life, BF, etc. all took over innovation and addictive gameplay in the FPS category. Idsoftware without Romero makes good engines, not good games.

If you made a lot of money like Raph once did, you'd know that.
I am perfectly aware of how my money is working for me. I just doubt that Raph made that much as an employee

Not enough Koster bashing in this thread...

It's pretty obvious to anyone that has actually played Kosters games that they're not fun. I really can't understand why Industry types are falling over eachother to hear what he has to say.

Reading books on Game Theory written by Koster is like reading a book on Directing and Editing by Uwe Boll

I'll take your word for it, there are enough fun games for me to play that look like they were created this millenium.

I agree completely. We were talking about Romero though.

Many posters here are more qualified to talk about gameplay than Raph Koster...

'Nuff said on this issue. Please lock the thread as Ossoi has successfully and succinctly said all that needs to be said on the issue.

So that's a picture of Raph Koster, the source of so much misery. My reaction is similar to when I first saw a picture of Smed, he doesn't look anything like I thought he would. He doesn't look half as smarmy and pleased with himself as I would have imagined. Seems like a decent guy. Looks vaguely Indian. Raph Gupta?

I didn't like SW:G. Therefore, even though it was a commercial success and sold millions of copies, Raph Koster is in fact the anti-christ, rapes little boys, and most likely forces single mothers to eat rat poison.

Ok, I have to go e-peen UO in another thread now.

Dead on.

He had the fucking Holy Grail of gaming: a Star Wars license, but instead of galactic strife, we got cantina dancing online.

p.s. Millions of copies? The only think keeping that game over 100k subs is the All-Access Pass.
