Oh, and a little-known secret at E3 was that a copy of the game was already up and running on the Xbox 360 as well, although whether or not the tile will actually be released for anything other than the PC platform remains to be seen. Bottom line: I can’t wait until next year to see what Mythic has to show then!
ARGH console MMO. sad face

Bah, not even a hint of what BioWare's MMO is except for how many subs they want.

nice report.

Main ones I am really interested in are Hero's Journey & the Bioware one. Lots of the others look ok but I find many just remake/remodel the same old old while I think HJ is trying to follow a diferent path & Bioware can do some truely great stuff.

I get more and more excited about Tabula Rasa everyday. I don't want to get caught up in the hype but it seems to be getting good first impressions all around.

My guess, based on their subs estimate, the licenses they own, and the rumours flying about a few months ago about them taking over SWG and revamping it...is KOTOR Online.

But don't quote me.

He had DDO as best in show last year? Wow. I like the fact that I could read tidbits about all the different MMO's at E3 in one place, but some of his observations/picks seemed a bit odd.

Reading the part about Huxley being for PC and xbox360, plus the fact that you can only be certain races for which system you're playing with turned me off to it completely. No thanks~

I'm more interested in Tabula Rasa now, I wasn't at all before really. As for fantasy MMO's, SUN, Aion, and Spellborn looked interesting. Interest in Vanguard continually drops.

Thanks for the link. Gona bookmark it and follow some of these.

So the market share report shows that sub numbers are higher for Eq1 than Eq2? Didn't they used to have about the same numbers?

I'm stoked about BioWare's MMO, but the team they've put together seems a little SWG-heavy to justfy rabid fanboiism at this point. Putting out numbers is also awfully ballsy - it's tough for a game to hit a million subscribers, and now even if the game does very well but not quite that well people will hold up Vogel's quote and call it a disappointment. That said, I'm eagerly awaiting more information - I'd pop wood if BioWare got the rights to the Fallout MMO.

Granted any writer can slant their article however they want to, the part I hate about this particular author is that he claims he has advanced knowledge of the mmorpg industry, when all I see is pure drivel. His slant is based on graphics, solo gameplay, and well..more graphics. Crap.

Noticed the same things.

He seems much more interested in enlarging the MMOG playerbase as a whole through innovation and new "gimmicks", as opposed to games attempting to "perfect" an already existing type of game ala Warhammer, Vanguard, etc.

It's going to be pretty hilarious to see how the console guys fare against PC guys in a first-person shooter. I bet the races on the 360 will have auto aim.

Here were his thoughts on DDO last year:

Quote:
I can honestly say that DDO was easily the most interesting and fun MMOG I saw at E3 this year. Players were allowed to play through their choice of two short adventures, either solo or teamed up with others. The graphics were excellent, a generation beyond those displayed in Asheron’s Call 2. The combat system is quick and action-packed; players click their mouse to attack or block as needed, and execute special attacks via the keyboard as usual. The game promises a heavy use of instancing and will be as faithful to the 3.5 Edition D&D rules as is practical for an online game, with some changes being made for the purposes of playability. While the game’s features are not to everyone’s tastes, I expect this game to be a big hit for the casual MMORPG player, as well as appealing to the many D&D players (both computer and pen & paper) who have yet to find a MMOG to their liking.
I think I'll take the projections with a grain of salt, though TR does look a lot better than it did last year.

Bioware's making a big push towards using only their own IP from now on. Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Jade Empire, etc are all their own IP's, and I'd imagine they'll do the same for their MMOG so that they have free creative license to do what they want, as well as print money for themselves and not have to share with anyone. I'd honestly be pretty surprised if they were doing a MMOG based on someone else's license.

Finally I can fight the console gamers, with my keyboard and mouse, and put them in their place.

Unless the version for xbxo360 has some serious targetting assitance they gonna be screwed versus mouse+keyboard.
