Have you ever bought in-game currency from the MMO secondary market?

Someone brought up the poll idea in the last thread bitching about WoW repair costs. I'm a little curious myself.

I cheated on a game many years ago. It completely ruined the game and I never played it again. I think if I bought gold or even sold it that I would get that same feeling again. I'd end up not playing the MMO anymore and I'd rather just earn the gold than lose the game.

You need to add a option in your poll:

No, but I am thinking about it.

I sold my EQ account when I quit (and I know many others on this board did as well) if that counts...

The $18 epic mount was too tempting, they got me.

I'm frankly amazed that less than 50% have. I never did in EQ because there was nothing worth buying. But when I can skip 10 hours of mindnumbingly boring farming (consumable/rep cash) by paying 1 hour's worth of real money, you bet your ass I will.

Cheating? I guess, if gold farming is supposed to be part of the challenge of high end raiding.

i got sick of my slowbie mount so i invested 50$ in some gold to buy my epic mount, and had a nice chunk left over.

Just did for the first time a few days ago, for some cash in Eve. I could have grinded mining or missions for 10-20 hours, or paid 24.95 for the ISK.

I'm normally personally against that type of thing, and I agree that cheating often ruins a game. But in this case it doesn't really feel like cheating to me.

It seems like the older I get, the less time I have to play my beloved video games, so the more inclined I am to buy currency for those games. When you work a lot and/or have a family, you can't really put in the time required to do a lot of things in MMOs. I wonder what types of people generally buy gold from places like IGE or playerauctions? I'd be willing to bet it's the people with jobs and families more than the students/younger people who have tons of time on there hands.

I did a couple months ago. When I told my guildmates, I expected them to berate me and go ballistic and tell me I was ruining the game for some reason. But no one did. They cracked a few asian-farmer jokes but noone seemed to really care and a couple even said they were thinking about it.

I bought it for exactly the same reason Dis is thinking about doing it, repairs. I didn't want to buy an item or a mount or anything, I just needed a nice bankroll/cushion for repairs. My play times are not what they were. (Currently, they're really bad but even once RL clears up, they won't be stellar). When I play, I raid. I just simply don't have time or inclination to grind/farm for repair money.

And I'm pretty much satisfied with my purchase. I haven't had to farm for one second for anything other than faction, my gear gets repaired and I don't have to bug people. And I still have more than half of what I purchased in the bank for Naxx. =)

No, but I've sold it. I've also sold the rights to no-drop items back when I was playing EQ.

Anyone want a Pegasus Feather Cloak?

I haven't but, I definitely would. I will buy gold long before I spend any of my time farming it.

If I could buy an epic mount for $20, I would do it right now. The going rate on my server seems to be about $60/1000G. At that price I don't care enough about a speedy horse, or WoW overall for that matter, to spend the money.

Given the current price of a number of things in WoW like armor repairs, comsumables, respecs and AH items. I would need to be able to reliably farm 800-1000G an hour to consider doing it myself.

I'm pretty sure the last time I enjoyed farming up gold in a video game was Dragon Warrior on the NES about 17 years ago.
