| Hell fucking yes I have and I'm not ashamed to admit it. 100gold can cover repairs for 2 weeks easily. 1000g? Repairs and consumables for 2-3 months solid. All for 50 bucks? That's one dinner with the girlfriend. If 50 bucks can save me farming for 2-3 months why the hell would you not? Whether you agree with the morality of buying online gold it comes down to this: How much money is your time worth?

| I've never bought currency. The only time I bought items was in Diablo 2 because some of them were so difficult to obtain timewise. You can spend 40 hours farming for an SOJ or an item with great stats, and you might get it depending on how kind the item randomizer is feeling, or you could buy them for 10 bucks online. This was before item duping became widespread of course. I recently sold my BWL full epic priest in WoW for 800. Easy come, easy go. It's not like I live on Ebay or anything, but it's nice to get something back for the time I put in. Last edited by Awanka : 05-18-2006 at 09:57 PM. |

PvE stuff just doesn't interest me. Quote:
When I think about "so much more to do" it usually doesn't involve WoW. Truely "free" time is precious and when I spend some of it in WoW it just wouldn't make sense to do anything but exactly what I actually enjoy.

| (when I did play WoW) If I needed 1000 gold, I'd much rather pick up some extra hours at work than kill the same mob over and over again. Work was more entertaining, and I made more gold/hr than sitting in front of my computer playing WoW. |

In school, money is at a premium but time is easy come easy go. After school, this gets reversed (generally). All the people telling me "gold is easy to come by" are probably %100 correct.....relatively speaking. But I simply cannot "afford" to spend the time it takes to do it. Nor, by the way, do I want to. You cannot afford to spend the money. I cannot afford to spend the time. In fact, I'll go so far as to say that if I truly had to spend this time to farm gold in order to continue playing WoW, I'd probably have quit by now. Realistically, I imagine my guild would help me out with repairs before seeing me quit, but for arguments sake, let's assume they wouldn't: Yes, I would have quit the game because I would be unable to repair my gear, hence, unable to raid, hence, unable to have fun. My view of the game is identical to Weritech's except I prefer PvE and avoid PvP like the plague, but our RL situations are probably comparable.

| Dominatus | Despite making very good money and having no moral objections to buying ingame money, I still never have. Generally ingame economies is the part I really enjoy partaking in, so I generally end up very wealthy in any game I play since I *enjoy* making money, so its never been a temptation. |

| Done it before and would do it again. Havent bought any for WoW yet though cause Ive been lucky to have friends who dont mind loaning money now and then to keep up. And Besides, Ive learned to play the AH just enough to make money to keep up with my repairs. |

| Never have, never will. If the game is balanced such that I have to resort to a 2ndary market to make the game fun then I've got some issues with it being called a game. I'd sell it tho. It's not a moral issue. Heh. |

| Yep, bought 100 million isk in Eve because I'm no longer a hardcore gamer. I played EQ for a good 5 years and never bought plat. Sold some though. In Eve it's a lot easier to just buy isk with money. The amount of time saved makes it completely worthwhile. |

+17 Internets | Bought? No, but I'd seriously consider buying some gold in WoW if I had extra cash heh. Repairs, consumables, reagents, ect are becoming ridiculous. Especially when you do it for more than just yourself. |

| Let me preface this with a few facts. I work 50-55 hours a week. I raid MC/BWL/AQ40. My tradeskills, mining, and engineering are maxed. It was simply too time exhausitve to go grind the cash for my epic mount. Spend a few weeks grinding up 1000 gold? or go pay 20 bucks for it. Work 2 hours or work for 20 hours? It was simply a choice between how to spend my time. I get nothing out of grinding any factions while i get my gold. So i bought the gold and it make my epic mount much easier to obtain. Its really a convience service imho. |

If you work 55 hours a week, then good job. You obviously have a very successful RL. Doesn't mean you should have the sole risk that comes with BWL spoon fed to you. I didn't say "never have, never will" due to morality .. I feel no guilty feeling from the buying or selling process. What pisses me off personally is I have invested time to achieve my goals and so should everyone else. Wow. Big surprise: mmorpgs are time based. IMO if you don't have alot of time to spend you should GTFO. Spending a couple hours in BWL/AQ40, repairing with your bought gold, then logging off completely defeats the purpose of the game. Also, for those of you that said you hate Stratholme: the reason you hate it is because you make yourself hate it. If you can't set aside 2 hours of your time to just dick around in there killing stuff, then that's sad. If your RL is so hectic you can't spend 2 hours then it boggles me why you do BWL+.

+17 Internets | While you may have a fair argument with the mounts - raid costs are becoming highly unreasonable. You should not have to grind for HOURS just to be able to participate for a single night. The cost of repairs, potions, reagents, ect all add up to an immense amount. An immense and unreasonable amount. And this amount is going to increase vastly with Naxx. What did someone figure it would be? Twice the cost of what repairs are now? That's freaking insane. |

| Sold - Yes, during Ultima Online's days Bought - Yes, WoW I'm well beyond my EQ glory days of viewing it as morally wrong. Frankly, I no longer care. My time in real life is more important than game time. Using a small portion of my income (and thus, hours not spent in game) is worth it to avoid wasting man hours doing tedius/trivial tasks that require no skill. Just a quick made up example for most people with decent incomes: It's simple math - 1 hour in the real world could be $25.00+ dollars earned 1 hour in WoW could be 100 gold if I'm lucky on good drops. 100 gold = $6 dollars My time is worth more than $6.00 an hour in value. I'd rather pay the $6.00 and have money left over, along with building my future income beyond the $25 when WoW is long gone. My comfort 5 years from now is more important than some small pride of paying for repair costs. It's the same reason I drop my car off at my local mechanic on even minor issues instead of fixing it myself. Now as for buying gold beyond skipping trivial/tedius features - I haven't done that yet, for gear I generally feel it should be earned. With that said, a few years ago I would have slapped myself for my views now, so that might very well change. There is a line though, I don't want to see real life money buying high end raid gear or group content. |
