I've done it, though never in World of Warcraft (haven't had the need to as of yet).

When I purchased money, it was for FFXI Online. Was well worth it; weeks (yes, weeks) of farming, or pay some money and save an assload of time? Not a conundrum, folks. Fuck that game and the impossible task of farming ridiculous sums of gil for stupid shit that people pretty much expected you to have lest they dub you a "poorly equipped" melee class.

I bought several thousand dollars worth of FFXI gil from the Japanese market and sold it to the US market for more than 100% return rate until the markets balanced out.

When switching games sometimes I'll sell off extra cash in the game to give me a bit of a start on my new game. It can be hard to start on an established server with nothing at all. Its one thing I love about new servers. For a while you can actully play the newbie level of the game and earn good stuff without having high level help. After a while low levels can be the hardest money wise because you are competeing with a ton of alts trying out a new class spending mass gold for the low level gear.

WoW repair costs are huge and basically require you to farm trash which I don't like. I made a lot of money in WoW by having exclusive access to some tradeskill recipies so I never had to farm for cash. If I was faced with farming for 10hours a week to learn new content or spend $50 and be set for several months I'd certainly consider buying some in game cash. I think for a lot of people its a matter of time investment required to farm the gold vs the time it took to farm the RL cash.

I think epic mounts encoured the buying of in game gold the most.

I had my account stolen once, and basically everything stripped off it. Friends helped me with stuff but there was boatloads I was missing, and a lot of things I was saving to buy. I spent like 50 bucks on plat. I do not regret it.

I actually thought about buying money for my nightmare horse in EQ2. I had 30plat already, but I was helping a lot of friends level and buying them stuff, so I thought I'd see how much 20p would cost online.

Eventually I decided that a $100 horse seemed like a silly idea, and spent the in-game money instead. Happy I went that route for now, because I bought grandia and kingdom hearts2 instead.

Let's make a new poll because I'm curious about the % of people who have sold or purchased an account.

Never have, never will. Not to come off preachy here, but I think it's pretty pathetic if you have to buy gold, especially if its just for repairs. Repairs are the one single fucking "risk" in this game outside of just time and you can't even pay that? I mean what do you do in the game when you're not inside BWL or AQ40? Go "okay guys see you next week" and log off?

Can you seriously not enjoy a stratholme run with guildmates every so often?

It is so retardedly easy to get gold in this game (here's a tip for engineers: buy thorium in the middle of the month and sell widgets at the beginning for 2-4x the price for faire) that if you can't even spend a few hours a week at the absolute most outside of a raid instance, I seriously question why you bother with the game. There is so much to this game beyond sitting in a room with 39 other people, even if it's just running laps around plaguelands killing undead for shits and giggles.

But anyway .. I was loaded to the gills in EQ (as if money mattered) and I've got well over 1.5k gold in WoW across various characters now so i certainly don't need to buy any. This is after 8 90g mounts, 1 640g mount, 300+g in runecloth for rep, 100g x2 for 300 eng, etc. I spend 80% of my online time either in one of the BGs, MC, BWL, or in Org waiting for any of the above .. and in that 20% I still manage to amass more money than I will likely ever need.

Did you not read their posts? The majority of people here said that they only bought in game cash because they spend 100% of their time raiding and that's all they can afford to play WoW because of their real life commitments.

I had to answer no, but I am pretty sure I would have bought some gold by now if I was still playing WoW. And I would have without the slightest guilt feeling.

Don’t worry Makata, once you move out of your dorm and manage to find someone alive to touch your pee-pee you wont have time for any of that shit either, like the rest of us.

PS: get fucked and die.

I work all day, every day. I am not afforded alot of leisure time, the time I have I spend in BWL and MC...that is pretty much all...I need to afford repairs to continue participating in raids.

I think that people who actually farm their 1,000 gold for an epic mount and however much for weekly repairs are pathetic, that shows you have FAR too much time to be playing a game...and Im willing to bet your hourly gold farming and the going price of it, is nowhere near the hourly wage I get not farming the gold and then buying it later.

ps I voted yes

The funny thing is I could park my ass in lguk/solb/seb/etc...and I was never bored out of my mind in EQ but in WoW to run strath and such for the billionth time felt like I was pulling teeth. They are mind blowing boring after about the 10th time through it.
