And on the flip side, a publisher like Microsoft doesn't dump a game this late in development unless there are some solid reasons.
The thing is, you can't know whether it's Microsoft or Sigil that's doing the pulling out. Brad mentioned buying publisher rights from MS - that doesn't sound like MS is calling the shots. Rather, it sounds like Sigil telling MS off because of whatever demands they're placing on the game.

If VG is truly self-funded as Brad claims, the situation is very different from a publisher pulling the plug.

Congrats to Smed and Brad.
I agree. Sounds like a good deal for everyone involved... including us gamers. Congrats and good luck.

I despise Gnomes... and I play a dwarf or an elf in any MMO that has them.

Can we expect a swank Vanguard display at E3 then? In MS's or SOE's booth?

MS : Hey, did you get the memo that we need this on Xbox 360? We plan to have about 2-3 games worth a damn by Summer of '07 and we need "Vaguard : Saga of Grinding" by Christmas to meet that projection.

Brad : Uh, can't do that. It's taking our coders a long time to get updates done, partially because I had a special program installed on their PC's which only allow 20 keystrokes per minute. Yeah, it takes longer, but I feel it's more immersive.

Smed : Hey Brad buddy, come on back over to my place. You'll have full control. Promise! <3 <3 <3

Brad : I don't know... you sure were an asshole before. I can't be used like that again.

Smed : C'mon Brady-kins! I've changed! I post on the FoH forums! I'm just a honest, working man who loves games! You saw them kissing my ass! I've changed, baby! Besides, we have cupcaaaaaaaaaakes...

Brad : Well... ok. Microsoft... I'm leaving you.

Microsoft : Fine, you're a n00b anyway. Less lag for me. Can I have your stuff?

Brad : Ok, lets get to work!

Smed : Right! Oh, by the way, our marketing department has decided we need the name changed to "World of Final Vanguard X : Breasts of the Star Wars Matrix One Ring." Also, we are going to need you to have Vanguard out by next month for PS3.

Brad : What? PS3 isn't even due out until 2007!

Smed : Yeah, we know. Oops, hey, can you grab that baby that is making it's way to the door?

Brad : I... I wish I could quit you.

You never name yourself Llleegooolaasss or Giiiimliii do you? Sorry, I played EQ when the first movie came out and that was painful.

To be serious, you guys aren't going to be like Blizzard with the release dates are you? I mean, a nice "this is what we're shooting for" would be nice given all of the upheaval with the publisher change, etc.

You were doing so well for 10 words, and then you threw it all to hell.

I was worried about something like this happening. MGS is not only an unimpressive publisher(did you see last years E3?) they are completely unreliable(quite a list of cancelled games there). MMOG’s take time to create. They need the time to mature and evolve.

Blizzard put in the time to make a great mmog and are being rewarded for this. MGS is just too unreliable to follow through and create a great mmog. I would rather SOE involved in publishing the game.

The next newsletter will read "Brad takes harsh stance on NDA breakers - Brad Mcquaid recently announced that he is breaking publishing ties with SoE because the president broke the NDA by saying 'The game is great but not done yet'. There is yet to be a new publisher. California welfare cases have increased roughly 5% because of the recent drop in Sigilian personal paychecks"
