It is a good day to be a Vanguard fan. As promised, the game will be released "when ready."

This makes me think (as I was gonna post on page 1 but the shitstorm caused my internet to crash 10fold) that MS wanted the game to be released late summer early Fall. Sigil replied "no can do" and looked for another publisher so they can release the game when it is ready.

Good call by Sigil for pushing the release date when the game is ready but even though it helps the publicity it gets killed by SOEs terrible name.

Sigil will merge with SOE, Brad will begin work on Vanguard 2, only to be unsatisfied with the creative direction and seek to form a new team consisting of the original Vanguard staff members. This new game will be the savior to all MMOs, but beta reports will leak an unsatisfactory gaming experience. The publisher's for Brad's new game will want him to release before the game is ready, and so the new company will join SOE in need of funding. Brad's new company will then merge with SOE and eventually Brad will start work on the sequel to his new game... etc.

Seriously though, I'm betting MSG were trying to push the game out the door too early and, in the desire to create a great game, Sigil knew they couldn't and had to find other means of funding.

I'm guessing this means we won't be seeing a 2006 release though.

I'm speechless. Except for this post.

Perhaps this is their reasoning behind the All Access Pass price change? It lessens the sting of them announcing an increase near the release of Vanguard, where it would be more likely to dampen the enthusiasm for the new game...

One more thing, after the X-Boxization of Oblivion and Halo, I can't help but feel this is a good thing.

This will go on for an untold amount of time before Brad notices the number 3 appearing everywhere. Just before he's about to make another MMO, he notices 3 buttons on Smed's collar after Smed suggests that he adds more cowbell to the new MMO. Brad follows Smed's advice, thus breaking the time loop.

Quote from Brad :

Quote:
SoE cannot touch the gameplay.

What we have done is become the publishers of our own game. We now have even more control and authority over Vanguard, how it is made, how it is designed, and how it is marketed than we ever had with Microsoft.

I realize there are lots of different feelings about SOE and their games. But whatever those feelings, the fact of the matter is that they know operations and distribution. They will make sure our beta runs the way it needs to, that our game is widely marketed, and that our game is available all over, in all channels.

That is SOE's role in this new partnership with them. Sigil remains Sigil, able to focus now moreso on what we do best -- design, implement, conduct betas, build community, and market.
