| I haven't played EVE, but it does intruigue me a lot. PvP in wow is fun, but the talk of EVE really reminds me of UO, in that a person/group could dominate an area/town and you knew that it was dominated by that person/group. Loving hearing about this, so awesome to watch unfold. The politics in EVE seem to be quite amazing overall, and really do change the game as a whole. As what Kolle said, this is what WoW pvp should've done. It should have been about control. In beta, there was -some- control in areas such as hillsbrad, or BRM battles (yes it was running to instances). Not to this degree, sadly. Please keep this updated. |

| oooo, I've got to say, this make's me sad that I'm in the carebear-ish ISS and therefore won't be involved in this at all... ah wellBut, as for the question of how much time would it take to compete? There is a wonderful fact of Eve that the most powerful thing you can have is a friend. I could deck a battleship out in full faction gear and eat you alive everytime... but all that expensive gear? Not as good as having a friend. This makes me wanna break my Harpy in... extra much |

To take part in a fleet going against BoB ? you'd need 2 weeks of training. To be able to stand a chance 1v1 in a battleship duel, you'd need 8 months of skill training. After 1 year you can take anyone on equal footing, it's just that a player with 3 years will be able to fly a fuckton of different ship, and a 1 year char will only be efficient(ie maxed skills) with a few (typically BS / Cruiser / interceptor / AS). Eve is no game you play hardcore for 1 month, become uber, and quit. If you're looking for the fastest way to inflate your ego, you might want to try another game. On the other hand, in no other game the decisions of a single player can completely change the game for tens of thousands of players, like SirMolle of BoB can do, and you know, SirMolle could have 0 SP he would still be, arguably, the most powerfull player in Eve. To be above average in Eve you need a lot of SP, to be at the top you just need a brain.

| PvP is mostly about your numbers vs. theirs, your ship + setup vs. theirs and your knowledge and experience, your first engagement you'll be shaking like a leaf because there's actually risk vs. reward. I forgot to activate a couple of my modules because I was soiling myself. Someone with a lot of SP doesn't usually beat you because they have more SP, it's because they know the tricks and aren't as nervous as a neglected puppy. Most high SP players have their skills spread out between different ship types, so provided you specialize you can become competent pretty quickly. The main problem is getting all of the Learning skills and fitting skills done, I'd recommend getting all your learning skills to 3 or 4 and do some "fun" skills before you commit to the game and go all the way to advanced learning skills. Fitting skills (Engineering, Electronics, Weapon Upgrades, etc.) are also an utter cunt but once you've finished them you're golden. edit: hadn't refreshed in a while, bugger it. | Within 2 months, you can be flying an interceptor with tech2 mods, more than enough to play a solid and competative role in pvp--if you specialize. Eve is just not a game that can have comparisons drawn to other games, such as "how long would it take in WoW to get a character to level 60 and be able to compete in AB?", the games are just too dissimilar to compare. |

And let's be honest; EVE is a great game. No argument there. It's what I imagined when I thought of what it would be like with Wing Commander going online and multiplayer, years ago. For the amount of time invested, though, newbies better be prepared for a heavy workload - and expectant of the amount of learning that will be necessary to (not so much compete against other players) compete and be competitive in the game. Toss around words like PvP and some Sullon Zek people might go buy this game only to be frightened off after a week of play.

And I wasn't bashing you for making the comparison, just trying to explain to people who might be reading but havn't played Eve, that comparisons aren't really fair. In short, CCP made a niche game and did a fantastic job of it. Their support, communication and involvement are hands down the best of any company, and if you are looking for a hardcore pvp game and don't mind the huge undertaking of Eve, you'd be damn hard pressed to find another game.

| To be honest 14 days isn't enough to draw you into the game, after the 14 day trial it took me 2 monthly subscription payments with breaks in between to get into it. Granted that's probably because I was a slack bastard and didn't pull my finger out of my arse to join a corp and get involved or try ganking some miners / NPC'ers in <0.4 systems. Something that must be done before passing judgement on Eve. |

| I was reading up some of Eve's lore, very interesting, a lot like Battlestar Galactica (some people left earth for a new system through a wormhole, the wormhole collapsed left them all without contact to earth or no way to get back there) When they annouce cylon NPC's I'll play it!

| Nice... The last time I saw players make a real impact on the world in an MMO was old-school Rallos Zek in EQ. Covetous Crew took over Najena and cut off the entire server from acquiring Jboots/Large Bronze. Meanwhile Hidden Power became the pirates of OOT and killed anyone who got off the boat making OOT into a private leveling ground. I've been meaning to try EVE ever since the game was released. I've downloaded the trial several times but got discouraged after reading about time it takes to skill up in the game. I imagine myself playing, making some bad spec decesion and ending up with a few weeks/months of wasted time. |

+6 Internets | I have no doubts that the high end game of EVE is entertaining, but the low end was a terrible drag. I spent more time *not* playing the game than I did playing it when I tried it, thanks to the horrendous travel times. At least I got to read forums a lot. |

| Itzena, I'm curious: What kind of force is the Forsaken Empire at the moment? Wouldn't they be able to stand a chance against BoB if it was somehow interesting for them to go out there and fight them? |
