| You know whats amazing....seeing how many views this thread has gotten and how active it is. It just goes to show you how Eve is a true underground game that has some substance and quality that the general MMO gaming public missed out on. |

What's truly refreshing is the approach CCP has towards the game. It really seeps through in the dev blogs. It's that niche viewpoint of not giving a damn for the lowest common denominator, the hardcore carrot-on-stick masturbators and the politically correct twits. It's a simple, down-to-earth, "let's see how far real passion takes us, and let's be good at what we do." And in other news, Cloaking V just completed for me. Fun times ahead. | Well, I think that the reason Eve appeals to me so much is how it's almost completely player driven. Every single thing you do will affect other players in some way, between the intricate market system, pvp, conquering systems, etc... it all has a real affect on the future of Eve in some small (or large) way. Most MMO's out there simply cannot approach the sort of player controlled content that Eve has, this game was built by players, for the players. CCP was formed IIRC by former UO players, and we all know how free range UO was, especially with the PvP, it really shines through in Eve with how CCP gives us tools to work with, and sits back and watches what happens. Too many MMO's nowadays will force feed you content with a very specific goal in mind. Once you get past the overwheling WTF? affect that happens after just starting to play, you'll get hooked if you like a challenge. |

True, the fact that most people enjoy mmo's with little interaction other than raid/farm with little variation within those two categories scares many people away from eve. WHAT?!? I have to mine raw materials, obtain a blueprint, local manufacturing facilities, train certain skills to fly this ship?! I don't have to kill anything? The above statement was my first reaction, I thought it was cool but kindof freaked out, it was alot to take in at first. And the sheer learning curve (cliff face) will get rid of the morons.

For once, many non-morons don't want to give their spare time fun all that thought. Work and family usually put nice strains on the brain, so getting headaches just to play a game is a no-no for many. Then, many morons are also stubborn so they get through the tutorial and eventually mix with the EVE populace. You can refer to the killboards where lately it isn't uncommon to see pirate corps score carriers/dreads belonging to people who have just farmed the isk in empire and don't know a damn about capital ships / the game. | |

| I agree with Chinaman889, bar none the biggest draw of EVE to me is the fact that I can not play at all for a week straight then log in and feel good that my character has progressed significantly through the offline skill training. That alone will keep me playing this game because I dont have time to devote to MMO's like I used to (or wish i did). I thoroughly enjoy the game. |

| Getting the thread somewhat back on track: Any updates on the great wars happening in the south? From personal observation it seems that KOS is all but gone (1 SOV system left) from WC - although there's only 3-4 sov claims by RA and its puppet alliance The Dominion. With the return of Tau Ceti Federation to the south, things look alot more busy for the Coalition. As for the BoB vs ASCN war, speaking to a member from ASCN in the FOH channel updated me somewhat on the "Pendulum War" - ASCN has managed to regain sov over GQ and H8 (even though the map says otherwise). They still hold that system in Fountain with Celest Apoc and apparently Xelas is waiting for BoB to retake their(?) outpost back from them. Aside from that, the South looks just as entertaining as always. |
