Keyrings going live next patch...for Wow

About TIME:

http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/th...&T=7787923&P=1

for those blocked:

We're pleased to announce that the keyring functionality has been completed and will be in place for patch 1.11. When a player first acquires a key, they will automatically acquire a keyring that will hold permanent dungeon keys. The size of this keyring will increase as the player goes up in level -- as seen below.

Level 1-40 = 4 slots
Level 41-50 = 8 slots
Level 51-60 = 12 slots

I wonder why they're limiting the size of it.

Kind of shoots themselves in the foot for future extendibility, but perhaps they'll offer stuff to do to increase it.

Whatever.

Good, this gives me hope that the Meeting Stones will one day go away. This is related to the "What makes games fun" thread too.

Good games don't shy away from solid ideas just because someone else came up with them first.

who say's its limited?

who's to say that they cannot increase the number fairly easily if and when more than 12 keys are in the game?

I'm sure its just a bag to open and put current keys in. So aka 1 hour of programming. A+ for effort and F- for limited slot implementation.

There are more slots than there are keys in the game. Perhaps if you expressed why you would need extra slots we can look into upgrading the feature before it goes live.

Just seems strange to have it capped in the first place, unless it servers some code function ...

Because if you added more keys to the game, and wanted to increase the keyring size, you'd then have to change two things to add that 13th key. Increased risk, blah blah. Just causes more work for future extendibility. Not a lot obviously, just seems to be silly to have such a limiting amount(close to current number of keys people would use).

And for that matter, why limit it based on level? I understand it won't impede your average gamer, but I don't understand what WoW gains by it.

I understand your point of view as a high level player. But you need to consider what the UI looks and feels like for someone who has never played the game before. The slots scale up for the simple reason of not overwhelming a new player with interface they won't have the ability to interact with for 50-some levels.

There's no gameplay behind slots opening up. It's not done to encourage leveling up. It's not some carrot. It's simply a more elegant solution than having a brand new player open up an interface that he has no chance of properly interacting with. If we were to suddenly give out a dozen new low level, permanent keys, we could very easily change the numbers so that the keyring could accommodate.

Yes, but we'd have to beg for it and only get it 2 years later. That's a dumb excuse and you know it Tigole. By the time people get their first key (Sm), they are well comfortable with the UI.

Will it have an interface like a normal bag or opened box (Lockboxes, for example?) Say we have the Scarlet Key in it. 2 years from now, we get our 13th key and we haven't ran SM or Live Strat in over a year. Can we take the Scarlet Key out of it or is it permenantly there?

And will items like the Scepter of Celebras for Mauradon go into it since that item only functions as a key? Or is it only keys such as the Skeleton Key and Key to the City?

Tigole's explanation while elegant lacks the direct yet honest punch of say, "There are only 12 slots because there are only 7 keys in game you fucking retard. If we add more keys, you'll get more slots. Now shut the fuck up."

That said, yeah - long overdue pretty much. Feel free to steal/borrow/copy basic, sensible ideas already implemented in other games right off the bat next time. I don't think anyone worth paying attention to will bitch about that sort of thing.

I'd like to think that they just add more slots as time goes on. Rather than a standard bag, just a simple list that comes up and says what keys you have much like a grocery list. A dialog with a Keychain title and then a list of the keys you own. No need to show a picture of each.

OMG, Tigole is posting. First off, kudos on implementing a good idea. Better late than never.

Can you guys fix Unbridled Wrath before 1.11? And is Onyxia supposed to be fearing as much as she was last night? I swear to god, every 5 seconds.

Guys, come on. There has to be some kind of size limitation if its going to be a container-type object. Making it roughly 1.5x the number of keys currently in game is reasonable.

I'm the first one to bitch about stuff (see sig) but if we bitch and get what we want, isn't it kinda ingnorant to then ask for it to be different?
