I cannot imagine LA giving SOE an agreement with no set end or at least clauses for termination.

Oh they are probably in there but requireing either both parties to agree to it or a serious breech of contract. I know my company has sued Samsung over a breech of contract when they yanked something on us and forced them to pay up.

More rumours, these ones even more unconfirmed than the Kotaku newsbite.

Im not going into any details as I dont want any hints to my sources but here goes....

LA pulled the license from SOE. The rumors about February were dead right. SOE was allowed time to transition players (how much is unknown) to their other station pass games. Thats why they stopped selling SWG prepaid cards.

Publish 28, if it gets done will be the last publish to the game. There is a minimal support staff now working on it. Its purely cosmetic changes to keep existing players subscribing

Bioware did indeed gain rights to develop a second version of SWG. It wont be called SWG2. Its not a completely new game but rather a reworking of existing code. Bioware is currently hiring a large team to work on the game and prefer experience with SWG. Pre-cu is a plus

The focus groups information was handed basically directly to Bioware. Some of the questions, like a KOTOR experience were hints to you folks as to who was behind it.

My source or sources only stated what they know. They didnt speculate on how long development would take. No clue on the rumors if its tied into a television show. No clues on pre-cu, cu, etc. And finally, no clue on an announcement or what SOE will say about this.

I trust this source's info 100%. Believe what you will but it looks like SOE's tyranny is over

Oh and this seemingly was why SOE was staunchly against a rollback or server mergers. There was no point to it.
This is probably from the same article Itzena linked above. It was posted on my guild's message board a couple days ago.

It will be interesting to see what happens to anyone currently subscribed to SWG and if they get some type of compensation or keep some type of account with the new game.

Who keeps giving Raph money?

I haven't played NGE SWG, but is it possible they're trying to change SWG or prepare it for a change so that if they lose the SW license they can make minor adjustments to make it their own brand of sci-fi?

SWG was initially based on Brad McQuaid's concept to fix was "wrong" with EQ. It failed and everyone with previous experience on the vision (tm), expected it to fail. Unfortunately there seems to be no way to repair a game that was broken from very beginning, so the decision to pull the license to prevent further damage was logical.

It really makes me wonder when people praise McQuaid as the savior of online gaming when his last project for SoE finally gets shut down after years of struggling.

I remember him saying he did alot of the work in EQ2 back when it first got off the ground, and we all know how that worked out, over time a brand new EQ2 game was patched in. and from hearing about it its quite eerie how certain aspects of EQ2 ended up in VG.

Timeline: one year and X months after Vanguard launches:
"Hi, my name is Lucifer McSatan, and I'm the CEO of the newly-formed 'Microsoft Online Entertainment' (or MOE for short). I'm in charge of running the new team that is taking over Vanguard's development, and I'm looking forward to improving the game experience for all players. On a sadder note, i would just like to wish Brad McQuaid well now that he has left Sigil, and his loss will be a significant blow for the new team we are putting together here to further improve Vanguard"

SWG is maybe the worst mainstream MMORPG ever released in the post EQ era.

I heard Horizons and The Matrix were worse, just to name a couple off the top of my head.

At least in Horizons you could play a Dragon at release.

And that's something I'd like to see in future game releases, non-humanoid intelligent races available for PCs.

I played MxO and I think there was more content in it at launch then SWG had after two years.

SWG should go in the MMOG textbook under "what happens when you try too many rewrites".

It is a little pathetic that it's been such a failure even though it had the SW MMOG license and was launched pre-WoW.
