Shadowbane goes naked

It isn't officially announced yet but Shadowbane is now available for free. No monthly fee and nothing else, currently.

All the old accounts are reactivated and not just for a month or a week, forever (it seems). No more monthly fee for anyone and you can freely create new accounts and download the client (which should include all expansions).

This is only one half of the news. From now Wolfpack has no revenue so there's probably another half of the news that we don't know yet. They are still waiting for the official announce before they publicize it and reveal the rest.

I'm really curious because I cannot figure out which strategy they have. Advertising seems inappropriate, micropayments aren't viable in a competitive game and building periodic content packs doesn't seem something that they are able to do with a brand new game in the works.

I'm guessing Wolfpack got acquired. Their posts in the forums are ridiculous. Even free the game doesn't have a future.

I wasn't hardcore enough for SB, I didn't play to crush, and so I (and my guild's city) got crushed.

I'll give it another whirl and see if my old account is still around.

I figured, ok, free is free.

Holy crap. Holy fucked up interface batman. Leveled to level 2, went back to train, and got stuck in a brick wall that I somehow walked into. Fun times!

I may try it again...in a couple days...but you guys aren't kidding from what I've seen so far. Ugh.

I still consider Shadowbane one of the greatest PvP MMO's ever made. The # of epeens vying for dominance, the levels of testosterone, the forum banter/politics, the ability to genuinely make a mark on the world, quality of pvp, and pure griefing has been simply unmatched by anything so far.

Though, like alot of MMO's... the PvE is lackluster, the game is full of bugs, lacks video card optimization, and has a dev team that focused too much on adding more broken content then fixing old content.

You were either there, or you missed out.
