The Queue

Yeah yeah Qhue talking about the Queue...move past the phonic irony.

I'm going to keep this short and simple: Why the fuck are there queues > 1 hour on so many servers right now? What the hell has happened to cause the population cap to be lowered so drastically?

I suspect that it has to do with some horrible coding introduced in 1.9 since the problem has been growing steadily since the AQ War and Valentine's Day events initially crippled the item transaction database...but those events are long past and things are getting worse, not better.

Even with a queue in place its not unusual to have people lagging out and I've experienced persistent latency issues for the first time in more than a year even when playing well off prime-time when no queue is present.

I've seen a statement saying that in 1.10 they are introducing some new hardware to combat the issue and that this hardware is being stress tested by the current Test contest. While it seems logical that the impending Expansion release will require more robust hardware to deal with the new zones and inevitable player influx I don't quite understand why the current meldown is happening.

It really does seem like amateur hour for a game with such a huge revenue stream to have no solution for the 45 min to 90 min or more daily queues other than "please wait a month or two... honest."

So what is the skinny on the situation? I'm sure someone on here knows what the story is.

From what Gamblor told me in tells once while in game. I agree with his statement.

1> Blizzard hires gamers.

2> The best oracle programmers typically are not gamers in the slightest.

3> Catch - 22.

I still find it absolutely and utterly amazing that people dont mind paying for a game that they have to wait in line to play. If EQ/EQ2/anything else ever had this happen, there would be complete outrage on these boards and all over the community about it...but for some reason, people dont mind waiting in line to play WoW?
It seriously is unbelievable to me.

I've got a feva, and the only perscription is a completely recoded database.

They've already changed Icecrown, and several server's, hardware. Has it fixed anything? Nope. I'm probably gonna get crucified by some IT expert, but if changing hardware didn't fix it... it's your software.

I am guessing this goes to show how much they like the game. They are willing to pay, and wait, to play. I don't think you would see outrage though with other games... My guess is people just wouldn't give a rip and quit. WoW's is different for a lot of people I guess. Either that, or it is exagerrated to the point of retardation, which I don't think it is even though I have never encountered those problems myself. (The Lag in game I have). So I am going to guess that if people just didn't love the game so much, they wouldn't wait it out.

I changed servers from Sargeras to Detheroc with my guild when they opened up transfers. Detheroc is a low/med pop server even with all the transfers, and i've seen a queue on there a few times. Last night the lag was unbearable, we had people who zoned into BWL get stuck in between zones somehow and a 3 hour wait on petitions to get it fixed. I'm not bitter, I'd imagine they were pretty damn busy with all the server problems last night on Deth but I do wonder why it took them 5 hours to realize there was a problem and address it.

The only queues that are a problem for me on Doomhammer are the battlegrounds.

30-40 minute waits FTL ;(

I always heard something that when they lower the population cap on a server, they are preparing it for a transfer in the near future. I know they've done this on Azjol-Nerub, and a server transfer is incoming in (hopefully) a month or less.

Well first of all, if people didn't care you wouldn't be on this thread right now. Second of all, I don't think people would have completely flipped out if EQ had queues back in EQ's heyday. They would do the same thing they are doing for WoW. It's just that this is now WoW's heyday. People put up with a lot of shit to do something they enjoy.

All that aside, I hope they fix this shit. I don't usually run into queues as I try to log in as soon as I get home(6ish pm EST) to avoid the queue. Mailbox, item, etc lag, however is an issue almost every single night as primetime hits. Very annoying. I look forward to the new hardware.

I'd also like to add that I haven't been able to raid with our west coast people. I get home at 6 EST and log in before the queue. Two hours later at raid time, the West Coasters get home and have to wait another hour or two to get in.

Thats okay. I never liked those west coasters anyway. Sitting their with their nice weather and oranges. Fuck em. WHO'S THE BITCH NOW?

My favorite part is that the GMs refuse to admit there is a problem, they just send you to that retarded site that tells you how to update your video/sound/network card drivers.

Me: "Half my guild just got disconnected from AQ40, and we keep getting random disconnects. Is this problem going to be resolved anytime soon?"
GM: "Please refer to the technical assistance website to make sure you are not behind a proxy or firewall"

No no, the problem is your custom UIs. %90 of all problems in WoW are the result of this!

They just opened up transfers from Ner'Zhul and a couple other servers to Malorne, a new server.

I moved my Shaman over, I logged in last night to find 10 level 60's on. There were however about 1000 people logged in under level 10.

Guess what, Blizzard never shut down character creation like they were supposed to. So all the cool names are taken and people are taking the popular guild names from the 3 servers that were supposed to transfer.

Rousing success, I must say.

Wildhammer has been having a queueueue every night, which is a brand new occurance. Saw the first one about 10 days ago? perhaps, and it's been growing pretty much every night somehow.

Read the first post in this thread. People ARE outraged about login queues. These threads pop up once a week (and get immediately rickshawed.) I've seen login queues twice since launch day - and they do suck. But this is a "wtfbbq login queues fagshitdick!3@#@$!" thread and not a "lol I <3 login queues!" thread. Hop on www.worldofwarcraft.com and look at the general forums. I bet atleast 25% of the bitching on the front page (and there is only bitching) are about lag/login queues.
