Play Planetside for free. Legitimately.

It's the best idea SOE's had for a while:
Quote:
Subscription Free - "Fodder Program"
New Players will be able to create a new account and and play for free for a period of 12 months. The new account will have limitations on the BattleRank (+ or - BR8) and the CommandRank (+ or - CR2). Essentially, new players will be able to have access to any part of the game but they will be limited on the diversity of their arsenal. Time Frame – We are shooting for February 14th for Launch.
Battle rank 8 is enough skill points to be a capable specialist, before anyone asks.

"Fodder" program, heh great name.

Excellent idea if they can avoid mass griefers.

Definitely a cool idea, but you'd have to level up 5-6 characters to BR8 to get to see all the stuff in the game, and have access to what you wanted at the time. Each particular character would be highly pigeonholed into the one role his certs gave him.

Well every 6 hours you can untrain a cert.

And BR8 isn't that high, you can hit like 4 just in the training area and the others aren't hard to hit either.

It can be frustrating at first because you always seem to have the wrong weapons for the job (since you have so few certs) and you constantly get murdered. I reaver-farmed until I got up to like BR12 or so when I could have a good indoor/outdoor set of certs.

This may be enough to get me to try Planetside again. I played it in Beta, but Reavers were retardedly overpowered (are they still? I used to have a great screenshot from beta of literally TWELVE reavers on my radar, surrounding the tower I was in) and it ran like crap on my system, but it'd be worth taking a flyer on for free to see if it's improved. I always liked the concept.

They've fixed most of the AA units by now and added some new ones (Skyguard) plus the BFR's can fly and 2-shot you.

So.. no.

This is great, but i'm curious for one thing,if we only have the original ps client, are we going to be able to upgrade to combat core or the other stuff aswell or only the folks who got the full game and expension already can benefit of the free year?

My guess it will be base only like with the Anarchy online free play thing. Could be wrong however since they are capping the levels.

FYI: You can decert as often as you want for the first 7 days after you create a character now. So no, you wouldn't need to level 4-5 alts to see all of the certs.

See all the certs, AND have access to everything you want, is what I said. But Kody is right, you can respec at will for 7 days after char creation.

Planetside, much like CoH, is very fun for about a month, then you do all their really is to do, and then meh...

Though I do miss in beta when me and a TR hacker just spent an entire night solo-capping bases. Got up to CR4 or 5 in like one night I think, was teh own. Was pissed because I could call in airstrikes but they didn't do anything. 8(

Ditto Zehn, thats what I did a lot in beta as well.

That was one of the most fun parts about beta/early game: Getting a couple of master hackers in infil suits and mass cap bases/towers. Of course shortly towards the end of Beta they mass nerfed cap exp.

I loved playing a stealther in Planetside, but there was just not enough to keep me playing.
