Sounds like alterac valley.

I had some fun times on planetside beta. I started off as Vanu and flew a Reaver but then I realized that since so many Vanu flew reavers because Vanu sucked at everything else, the other 2 factions specialized in anti vehicle and anti air. Then I learned about NC's rocket launcher (phoenix or something) that let you control where the missile went. At that time, you could control the missile almost as good as you could move your character around, allowing you to stand next to a wall, shoot it over the wall, and land about 10 feet from the wall on the other side. It also did crazy damage to infantry as well as armor. So I went that until it was nerfed. Then I met some guys who made a guild or whatever it's called that focused on those crazy NC tanks. I was one of the gunners. I had a lot of fun with that for a few days. After that, I pretty much got bored of the game and quit.

I can't wait to try the game again to relive those fun moments I had, even if it only lasts a few hours.

BFRs have been nerfed quite significantly since they were added.
TR still sucks, though.

Well it's situational sure but vanu maxes tend to fare better outdoors than the other two mainly because of their ability to jump over things.

I have two CR5's and trust me, OS's do not take out entire courtyards. The radius is approximately 5 metres in all directions from the point of impact (about 15 feet). The game is also very funky in how it decides what is hit with the OS, how and if the terrain impacts the hit (think target hiding under trees) and hills and other things.

Back in the day, 30 kill OS's were the norm, but as the playerbase has matured in level, they have toned it down considerably.

Overall its the best (and only) Massive online shooter you can play. If you want 1-2 hours 2-3 nights a week of just crazy fun killing and being killed, thats the game for you. Where they really fell down is in the design phase, where bases and terrain were made permanent, unchangable factors. By now, I have attacked every base and tower about 500 times, from every possible angle with every possible weapon and tactic. Same goes for defense.

Like sleeping with the same spouse for years on end, you yearn for something new to run your hand over.

Anybody know of a reputable site that will sell me a copy of planetside and email me the key or something?

Really, more sites like that are needed. Is there any legislation keeping people from doing it? Otherwise, you could probably make a boatload of money off all those 3am/weekend "omg I'm bored and can't sleep and kinda drunk" purchases.

gamersloot.net is reputable as far as I know, but they don't stock Planetside, apparently.

I think there's a direct download purchase version linked on the planetside site, unless you absolutely want the cd's too.

The whole purpose of a MMOG is to have a persistent world where people group together and form guilds and organizations to move forward in the game. Guilds or teams which prepare better strategies will become more successful and grow their Internet penis’s and have cool websites where they can brag about their achievements. Planetside’s park a couple AMS’s outside a base and pour in zergling’s for hours on end is fun for a couple of hours every time they offer a free trial, it doesn’t make anyone want to actually invest money or time in the game though.

There are a variety of ways to use a death timer that would not be overly draconian to people but would reduce zerging and create a reason to organize into squads and apply tactics to be successful at the game.

man thats bullshit there was a lot of skill involved, assloads of tactical shit.
i was in darkskyes, one of the best PS outfits we kicked some major ass in that game.

its a shame i just bought BF2, otherwise i'd go back.

Yeah seriously. The times I was in Serious Gamers was the best time I had in PS because of how organized we did things. You can do a hell of a lot more as an organized group of 20 people than you can as a mindless zerg of 50 people.

I played PlanetSide back in beta with the Sullon kids (clan was called like Crimson Jihad or something). Was a cool game until they put in the Lattice system.

Guess I'm a little confused. So the account will be free, meaning no monthly fees, but will the actual game itself be free as well? Will we be able to DL it for free or..?

Totally free, should be able to download it from them. If you want to unlock it fully to pregress further you would have to pay for the game and start on the monthly fees like normal. This is basically a try before you buy sorta thing.
