| If remember correctly back in 1999 MM was active in the zone initally, deep in the castle, and he was as buggy a mob as you could want, and boy was he tough, remember this was back when having a langsax of the wolves meant you were the shit, we would always end up with him at the zone entrance, bodies everwhere, and he'd never path all the way back to the castle and when people zoned back in for CR's he would be immeadately back at the zone entrance giving everyone deep massaging anal. So, the dev's couldn't get rid of the bugs and nerfed him altogether. That's how I remember it, it's been quite a long time and he was only up briefly during my tenure. |

They obviously did the lore on him very well, but he's just a vampire. | |

| the MM character is special to old school eq people because he was used as part of (one of the first?) major GM / world events. the reverence / interest remains because SOE never fucked it up by putting him in to a shitty expansion or something. until now |

| Well, as I had briefly explained in a previous thread, Mayong Mistmoore isn't really "just" a Vampire. He is THE Vampire. It's more and more plausible that Mayong Mistmoore was the very first Vampire of Norrath and spread Vampirism around to become the plague it is today. There are many Vampires in the Tower of Frozen Shadow created by Tserinna Syl'Tor, but she was herself made a Vampire by Mayong Mistmoore eons ago when they were lovers (thus the many ripped-off paintings and portraits of Mayong in the Tower of Frozen Shadow). The Vampires of Luclin (Tenebrous Mountains, Katta Castellum and Maiden's Eye mostly) were created by Valdanov Zevfeer, an alchemist from Norrath who followed the massive exile to Luclin ages ago, and who had been in the employ of Mayong Mistmoore (and was apparently contaminated by him prior to his exile, thus spreading the Vampirism to Luclin). The only thing that Mayong did not create was the Werewolves, since he stole the secrets of Lycantropy from Venril Sathir, thanks to his Drachnid agents spying on Karnor's Castle (Mayong created the Drachnids himself, by mixing Teir'dal and Recluses). Mayong's court grew to a fearsome size as his Werewolves, Vampires and other geomantic creatures (Gargoyles for instance) became more and more numerous, but even as his minions filled the Catacombs of Mistmoore and became too many for their own survival, Mayong disappeared. Clans and factions arose among his followers, like the Progeny and the Trueborn among the Vampires, or the Savagefang and the Nightrage among the Werewolves. Since Mayong disappeared around the time of the discovery of Zebuxoruk, it's possible that he went after the same arcane mysteries as the Forsaken to find the secrets of the Cypher of Divine Language and be granted divine powers himself. If this Master of Dreadspire is indeed Mayong Mistmoore, then it would seem he has partly succeeded and has become the ruler of one of the dark Planes. EDIT : Yes I'm quite a freak about lore (and not just EverQuest's either). I was very knowledgeable about the lore prior to the release of Omens of War, and have barely followed what's happened since. But if you're interested in anything before that, I can probably tell you quite a lot about it. And it's not taken from crappy fan-fictions either.

But compared to most other games out there who don't even bother to have lore at all beyond "It's war, kill each other", then I think EverQuest's lore is not that bad because through the years I played, I saw people who sometimes feared to go to some places simply because they'd read about them or were intimidated by the monsters inside. I think any game that can create that kind of mystic aura around some characters within is not that bad, or its lore either. EDIT: Oh by the way, I'm not at all obsessed about all things Mayong. I consider him a colorful character in the history, but that's as far as it goes. I simply happen to know most of the things about him. My favorite parts in the lore of EverQuest would be the Dragons (Kunark and Velious) and the life of Venril Sathir and his Sebilisian Empire). It all started going downhill with Luclin's lore though.
