+38 Internets | Fileplanet D&D Online Stresstest, Sunday 3pm EST http://www.fileplanet.com/promotions...ch/stresstest/ I was part of the last beta run but missed the event when they were handing out full time beta accounts to those who grouped. (and I grouped all the time too )If you haven't had a chance to try it, you should give it a go. It's unique and surprisingly challenging, especially compared to the other MMORPGs out there. |

| I played the alpha models, and core gameplay elements were enough to turn me off. You've all seen the screen shots where the dude rolls outta the way of the fireball..Its possible, but gayly done. When playing, to put it simply, the spam clicking to attack, trying to play hit and run as a fucking barbarian was gay, oh, and the controls were just so generally clunky that I looked very similar to a monkey fucking a keyboard during gameplay. All of that aside: If you grew up with D&D, I suppose you should give it a try during beta instead of release. You probably won't like it. I know my sister broke 4 keyboards attempting to enjoy the game simply because she loved D&D so much she wanted to love the game. If you aren't really a D&D diehard, you may enjoy it, but don't go into it expecting a whole lot. No xp per monster kill as per last time I played, only once a quest is complete--The battle system was a bit clunky when I played, however, if smoothed out it combines a lot of twitch skill with some general d20 rules...For those of you wanting to actually be able to have enough control of your character to jump away from the sword, this is the game for you. For the rest of us who loved EQ for its specific gameplay aspects--Wait til Vanguard.

| Eh, I could go patch it, but I didnt care for it much at all during alpha.. I don't like the the combat system as a whole, and unless thats gotten a 100% revamp, I'm not really interested. I may go try it out again, but I doubt I'd buy it retail. I'm sure its going to have a good following, and there are plenty of people who enjoy the combat system as it stood in alpha, but when I've got contempt for such a core aspect of the game (and fighting is a core aspect, though you can get around without fighting in some cases), it kinda kills the game as a whole...Quests were interesting, however.

+16 Internets | There seem to be a basic problem in the game that it shares with the D&D D20 system: At the moment you create your character you must allready know exactly how you want it to be at level 20 or you are bound to shoot yourself in the foot. On top of that, when you play the tabletop version it's possible to make fun characters that have flaws or change their career direction for narrative reasons, etc, because there is a DM who is there to play WITH the group and make sure there is fun for everyone in the stories he creates WITH the players. That cannot happen in a MMORPG, so you have to min-max and flush social aspects in favor of pure combat (well... to some extend since they hijacked some social skills into combat skills). I guess it's possible to make some fun characters with a bunch of role playing friends and go at it this way, but the journey will be painfull and most certainly less enjoyable than simply gathering around a table. Question for the people that played it more than the handfull of hours I have been playing: what is the proportion between repeatable/non-repeatable missions later in the game? If there are too much non-repeatable ones (which is the case of the first dozen missions) it sounds like it would be pretty annoying for the grouping dynamic.

| Since I know absolutely nothing about D&D (never really got into the table-top stuff), was wondering if one of you experts could help me out. I remeber in NWN my brother and I made an assbeat monk who could deflect arrows, dodge a shitload and just rape guys with a cleave type attack. What would be the best combination to make a guy in D&D online like the aforementioned monk, or just the best pure melee pure damage character?

| Warriors and paladins get access to Cleave and Great Cleave feats. but i dunno how they did feats in D&Donline. monks in NWN were like, "hey lets watch my screen and not have to actually use anything but autoattack". |
