It wouldnt be as great as you think it would be.

a) You would already know the best way to hit 50
b) You would already know the spots for the best loot
c) While EQ1 PVP might be fun in old school style, the PVE game would feel very horribly dated

It's the "So old it's new!" effect. You would want to play it just because you liked playing it. But eventually the "been there, done that" would sink in and the game would lose it's luster. Kinda like reading a book you havent read in awhile...you forgot some parts and enjoy redisovering them, but for the most part you remember how the book generally goes and you will have little incentive to reread it until enough time has passed where you forgot the details.

I'd sign up for that.

Would definatly have to allow /anonymous though - I think it was turned off on that server. Otherwise you'd have a group of high levels check /who and gank anyone getting close to them. At least with /anonymous you can sneak to rarely visited places.
Discord was almost fun. It was so damn close. It had some critical flaws. First of all, double speed leveling wasn't nearly fast enough yet still plenty fast to fuck you hard as your skills didn't go up nearly enough. It also was so hardcore it only encouraged wussy cowardly play and eventually was ruined by hacks.

Now, we both know that is a matter of personal taste. There are some books that I read over and over and over again. I probably read Pet Sematary 3 times a year. I love that book.

I still play Final Fantasy (NES!), along with 4, 6, and I'm playing 7 right now. I've got FF8, FF9, FFX and FFX2 sitting unused. But FFT? I'll take that game from the beginning to everyone at 99 with maxed gear, classes, everything. This fall I logged back onto EQ and took a BL from 1 to 64. If they gave me want I wanted I'd be back again.

I could go on and on and list things that still have immense value to me. I don't have all of Quantum Leap because I remember liking it as a kid, I have it because I like it now.

Maybe it's time to watch DS9 from start to finish again. I know I'll do it again.

Some stories are just so good I keep going back to them.

Will you just shut the fuck up? There's seven dozen nostalgia threads in screenshots and this thread has been repeated every month for the past 37 months at the very least. SHUT THE FUCK UP. Nobody cares that you had a fun time griefing newbies or camping orc hill.

If you post one more time about how great it would be if we could all get together and sign up in a 12 hour list for Lord/AM/Hand because you had a great time spending 30 minutes negotiating to get a black saphhire only to have the jeweler fail OMG LOELZ SO HARSH I will fucking rape your mother with a dildo shaped like Blaezen raping Dakota.

Actually I played on In Por Ylem with FOH and company, and that was a blast. UO was a great game to go back pre-ren period and play. EQ on the other hand would just be a shitty PvE game without the allure that UO had PvP wise.

Would suck. Imo

Unfortunately I have to agree with the naysayers.

Weve all been there done that, and EQ was designed for a diffrent crowd of mmorpg players than there are today. Its the freshness of the genre at the time which made EQ stand out, nothing more, nothing less.

i did go back a couple of times after I quit and while it was entertaining for a while, it all ended up right back at the place where I quit. the only enjoyment that I got out of Eq while returning was twinking the shit out of my newbs and decimating all content before me, like a god mode. Without this feature i woule never start a fresh character on a fresh EQ server no matter what the rulesets are. It was a bitter and harsh gaming experience, and like I said, the only thing that saved it at the time was the freshness of the genre as a whole.

Edit: and yeah, these Vanilla EQ threads need to stop.

EQ is dead!

I didn't want to start a new gay thread about UO, especially like 10 years after it was released. But whats up with all the pre-xxx references? I played it shortly back when it was just plain UO. What is pre-ren and (especially) pre-trammel?

If I'm gonna gay up a thread, it might as well be a "Hay guyz, what about an EQ server with no xpansions? lol" thread.

Edit: What I mean is, what did Ren and Trammel do to fuck up the game?

I cross-server joined stormhammer/legend's event channel the other day and listened in. From what it sounded like, once legends goes, there's a chance the server farm for it will be used for the classic EQ server (should they decide to go through with it.)

Ren ruined what UO was, a really basic just-above-a-deathmatch of a game and basically opened the floodgates for carebears. It's most apparent in the introduction of Trammel and Feluccia (sp?) which were basically copies of the same world only one was PVP and one was not.

As for the topic, reminiscing is awesome but going back to the past usually sucks. It's better left for stories, truly.

2 ways that would make it fun would be to have the 1 life system again, or else have a full implemented Project M.

Did you play the Lucid Vision (eqemu) server? It was great fun for about a month and then we all got bored again...
