EQ Stormhammer/Legends Server Finally Closing

Here's the email that went out to the current subscribers:

Quote:
Dear Legends Subscriber,

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support of EverQuest and the EverQuest community and hope you have enjoyed our Legends service. As of February 1, 2006, however, we will be discontinuing the Legends service.

At this time we have not determined whether Stormhammer will become a standard server or if all current players will move to existing servers at no additional charge to you. We wanted to hear from you before we made a decision and we will be including the Stormhammer community in the upcoming decision making process so be sure to watch for more information on the forums or in-game via messages of the day, broadcasts, or in-game polls.

As a thank you to our loyal members, we are allowing all current Legends subscribers to maintain their seven Veteran Reward benefits regardless of length of subscription.

Effective immediately, your account billing will be labeled "pending status," which will allow you to choose a new subscription plan. This can be done by logging in at https://eqbl.station.sony.com/launch...bscription.jsp , and then choosing a new plan. Please be sure to do this prior to January 31, 2006 to ensure your subscription does not lapse.

Thank you for your cooperation with this matter and if you have any questions or concerns regarding your account subscription changes, please contact our accounts and billing department at: 858-537-0898 or go to the following link to chat live with Customer Support ( available Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm PST): http://help.station.sony.com/cgi-bin...duser/live.php You can also visit http://www.station.sony.com/en/servi...p/customer.jsp for more support options.

If you would like to submit feedback regarding your Legends experience, please feel free to email your comments to Legendsfeedback@soe.sony.com

Thank you,

The EverQuest Team

Sony Online Entertainment
I can't believe it took this long...Legends has been desolate for quite some time now. I was a longtime Legends subscriber before I quit EQ a year and a half ago. It was a great place, sad to see it go..but its surprising that it held on this long.

Legends a great place my ass. They should have never done that experiment. Legends was just a go between for ebayers server transfers. I played on my friends account there for a couple weeks before his sub. ran out and it was crap.

Extremely low population with tons of GMs on at all times. Meanwhile real servers have little to no CS. Once I /petitioned that I wanted some cookies and within minutes this GM was there with a stack of cookies and milk. Great allocation of resources.

My opinion was relative to my experience there, playing on Legends for two years. We had a very tight-knit community, great competition between our high end guilds, the GM support and the events were a lot of fun. It had many downsides (like the revolving door with players moving there to gear up and then transfer back home) but for the most part it was a good server up until guilds started transferring off.

I realize it *was* shitty for those who weren't on Legends to watch people pay more to recieve service that everyone should get anyway....but for those who were there it was a nice bonus to be able to do a /who all gm anytime you wanted something =P

If I were still playing EQ I'd be sad. There was little funnier than people leaving rallos zek for a month or two to gear up so they could "own the server," then come back and get the shit kicked out of them just like before, only living a little longer.

I very much enjoyed Stormhammer when I played on it. Unlike other servers, the community appeared to be much more mature and the lower population had its advantages.

Sadly it started to go downhill when guilds moved off the server, I think SoE dropped the ball on some issues affecting SH subscribers. For once, after they closed Marauder's Mire we never got a unique zone anymore. (I moved there after they closed it already - no idea why they did that)

I hope another company will give it try - though I doubt it. If done right, it could be a great thing.

I don't mean to say only a certain group of people are idiots, or that a higher fee keeps the idiots away - but in my experience, you ended up with a more pleasant group of people on SH than the normal servers. Especially when you joined or added random people - if you only group/play with your guild, I suppose the other people on the server don't really affect you.

It was only a matter of time. Stormhammer was a gold mine for SOE. It ranks right up there with character transfers in their list of "licenses to print money". They wouldn't close it down unless it was no longer profitable, and with the draw of other MMOs, and gradual reduction of EQ1 subscriptions, it was only a matter of time.

I'd pay good money for a WoW server or two like it.

I'm very surprised Blizzard hasn't introduced half a dozen 'Legends' servers. Especially considering their known average playerbase, and how much we would pay to stay away from said playerbase.

Yeah, I agree. I read this and thought exactly the same thing about WoW. I wouldn't mind paying 25 dollars a month for a server which had twice the customer service. That's all it would need, nothing else.

Not asking facetiously, I'm genuinely curious what issues you would like to see a "WoW Legends" server resolve. Besides the queue on high-pop servers, and some occasional down-time on the day of (and day before) server maintenance, what would you like to see the extra $$ per month address? What, exactly, are you wanting to see from customer service in WoW?

Like I said, I'm not asking facetiously, I'm genuinely curious what issues people would be willing to pay extra to see resolved. Not looking for a right or wrong answer here, since different things are important to different people. Just a curiosity.

Is there any way to see server population for EQ1 now?

Imagine the BG's if it was a server of high(er) end guilds who were willing to subscribe. Shit, I would pay for that for at least a month and bring some friends to see how the pvp was.

Two times zero is still zero.

What do you want? Twice as many copy and paste GM replies?

I rarely need customer service. I'd rather pay for a server that had GM actors and whatnot constantly doing live events and whatnot.
